Just had my first day in the gym, too! You should have tried going up by 5lbs until it got hard to lift to find your starting point but starting off at 225 won't sap your gains long term, just put you behind by a month or so compared to somebody who started at, say, 250.

I actually got 255lbs and I think that's pretty good for a first day.
