Are those exercises a must for leg day?
Most of the programs I find include these two, but at the same time, I read a lot of bad shit about these machines.
I already do squats, and I'm looking for two more exercises that replicate the effects of those machines, basically hitting hard the hamstrings and quads.
If nothing else compares, guess I'll use them anyways.

Leg curls are mostly fine if you dont go too heavy, but please never do leg extensions, they fuck your knees

>Never
Should say never go heavy. I find them great at lower weights for getting a real good negative and contracting the vastus medialis hard.

i have tendinitis in my right knee, which makes it literally impossible to squat without excruciating pain.
leg extensions are the only quad exercise i can do without pain and go heavy on. in fact, after doing leg extensions, my knee hurts less when climbing stairs, etc.
can you explain this?

Nope, but that's still anecdotal

Actually light leg extensions are used in knee rehab to strengthen the ligaments. The bad thing about them is if your quads are exhausted the movement will put all the weight on the rotator cuff equivalent of the leg

alright then m8, i'll keep doing my leg extensions then
they were actually suggested by my physical therapist. at first she advised to go light on them, but my knee is getting better and now i can go heavier

Hack squats

Where is your tendinitis specifically? Because I have the opposite problem - I can squat fine but leg extensions make my knees feel weird in a really bad way
I've always heard leg extensions are bad for you.
But when I went to physiotherapy I asked about them.
Apparently they are used for correction therapy and rehabilitation.
