Being fit is important because loving oneself and practicing self-care is the first step toward helping other folks. Being in good shape improves confidence in additon to making other people more receptive to literally everything you do or say, which just makes life easier in general.

Also, it's easier to accomplish big picture stuff if I have energy and don't need to deal with chronic health concerns.
