switched from 85% to 90% for my Texas Method volume days.. fuck it was hard. I mean I was in no fear of missing a rep but the last ones were hard.

Is this a good thing? Hoping it pays off. I think my volume days were way too light compared to my intensity. Doing 90% for volume and 80% of that for recovery day

Lads, I finally hit 3pl8 on squat for 2 reps, never tried such weight before.

Now only to get 4pl8 for DL and I got 1/2/3/4 in the bag.

So happy guys
>>

if you do start again, please inform me so I can stop praying for you to do well in your first comp
>>
>>40692856
Are you talking about squats? I find that the upper body can handle that intensity but at the higher squat numbers the hits are just too big at that kind of intensity.

However, I did the split template, meaning I had 3 days to recover from VD instead of your 4, so take that as you will.

I've know a lot of guys over my 20+ years of lifting who lived and died for the sport, and they all shared two characteristics- they were poor and they were stupid.

No one has ever really loved powerlifting, outside of the competitors. It never had the Olympic recognition of oly (it started out as "odd lifts" competitions"), and normal people have no appreciation for the weight being lifted. A strongman lifting a car? They can identify with that. 600 lbs on someone's back? They have literally no way to identify with that, so there is no appeal. On top of that, powerlifting meets are fucking torture, even for the competitors. I have read an entire novel at every meet I've done. Not out of enjoyment- out of boredom.
It's not the feds that ruin powerlifting- if that were the case, capitalism would fail for providing too many choices between brands (which is what feds are). It's not the divisions that ruin powerlifting- bodybuilding has half a million divisions and it does fine. Powerlifting will never be a money sport because no matter how much weight we lift, IT'S FUCKING BORING. The lifters have no personalities, slamming weights and freaking out are discouraged, and the meets are 22 hours long. The sport is fucking stupid. That is why it will never, ever, be the "money" sport some of you people think it should be.
>>
>>40695241
That's why the natural course of a lifter who has proved himself to the best of his ability in the IPF arena is to move on to the fun shit in the lolfeds and do roids
>>
>>40695241
>outside of the competitors
why would anything else matter?
if you stop enjoying it, pick a different hobby

>I have read an entire novel at every meet I've done. Not out of enjoyment- out of boredom.
yeah best to do that than talk the to rooms of people around you
corners are usually more comfy anyway right?

>bodybuilding does fine
does it
maybe im out of the loop but i know no one that is interested in actual competitive bodybuilding

>>
>>40698247
Yes way - you can do it easily lad.

I have to hit a proper AMRAP set for bench tonight, so I can finally settle back the 3pl8 bench as 1 RM - those 3 months of no lifting really took some time to get back from.

I'm confident I can do it though, just like you can
>>
Got back to squats today. Meant to do 5x5 @ 80 and only managed 3x5 and then a set of 3. Just felt so exhausted, not sure why. Maybe I'm just not used to it

Feels good though, no pain or anything so I'm probably good to get back to squatting and deadlifting regularly
>>
>>40698291
Well it could be fun, but I don't think I have the capacity for it. 10% gets me top set + 4-5 down sets with time limit at 10 min, 14% gets me top set + 8 down sets with time limit at 15 min... Could give it a try one day tho, but I don't think this is the day for it.

3 months off for what?

Have fun with it,I made quite a lot of changes to it but I've been running the first 6 weeks for the last 6 months
>>
>>40699507
Yeah I'm gonna swap the day 3 fronts for deads and do fronts or SSB after. Also tinkering with the idea of swapping out T1 OHP for some kind of benching.
>>
>>40699550
Tbh I actually ran it only 6weeks for sq/dl because I'm coming off an injury and didn't really like the AMRAP work.
Now I'm doing Sheiko for sq/dl and JnT for upper body only.
At first I ran Bench,CGBP and OHP as T1 but I like to have an higher frequency on my comp bench so the last 3 cycles I ran Bench,CGBP,Bench as T1 and kept OHP as T2 after CGBP.

Did you get jacked?
>>
>>40699631
>>40699585
WTF I hate you now!
I'm a bit bigger desu,but I still don't look like I lift.
In all seriousness the first 1-2 cycles I put on a lot of arm size but it has slowed down as of now.
I just probably need to eat more since I've been training 6days a week after starting Sheiko and I'm not gaining bw.
>>
>>40699663
I'm probably just gonna do the first six weeks 2x, maybe 3, then jump to Sheiko or Dietmar. I could certainly stand to gain some weight so I figure a 12ish week J&T hypertrophy block plus a shitload of meat and pasta should do the trick.
>>
>>40699701
>>40699663
I just hope to get insane gains on bench when I finally do a strenght block,so far I've been able to PR every cycle with a lot of fatigue.

It took me a bit to figure out the weight to use for the AMRAP but in a couple of weeks you'll get that down.
Also, first week is fucking hell if you're not accustomed to high rep stuff.

If you have any question just ask here,I'll probably read it since /plg/ is back to being pretty slow

So, I keep hearing conflicting opinions on Sheiko programming. Even after trying to analyze each block for their specific purpose, I still can't fully decide on how Sheiko should be scheduled.

For me, I think it should go numerically: 29 (prep, high volume) - (30/31 interchangeabe depending on how you responded to 29's volume/intensity. If intensity was easier, go with 31; if volume, go with 30) - 32 (peak)

What's /plg/'s take on it?

As for multiply lifting dying, that's not likely going to happen as long as today's "raw" lifter wants to stay in the game. The shelf life of the average raw lifter doesn't last long. Your hips and shoulders will be the first to go. If you want to stay in the game, you'll have no choice but to embrace gear. I

Why can't I lift with straps or a belt? I'm not a rookie I know exactly how and when to use them. It's just, I feel like they impair the fluidity of my motions, I've done all my personal bests raw, only with chalk. With accessories in able to lift 20% less.

Even the weightlifter dudes keep telling me not to experiment with my back like that since I'm not going to a competition or anything.

Have you tried a 40 minute squat routine? it's a squat routine intensifier. 3 reps every 30 seconds for 40 minutes. don't focus on bringing the weight up, focus more on bringing the weight down slowly. you can put a resistance band around your ankles though. that will shift tension more to your quads. let me know what you think

AlphaDestiny Novice Routine (modified by me)

Workout A

Box Squat 3/5×4-6
Floor Press 3/5×4-6
Dumbbell Row 3/5×4-6
Overhead Barbell Extension 3×6-10
Barbell/Dumbbell Preacher Curl 3×6-10
Stiff-Legged Deadlift/Good Morning 2-3×6-10
McGill Big 3

Workout B

Box Squat 3/5×4-6
Paused Overhead Press 3/5×4-6
Trap-Bar Deadlift 2×4-6
Close-Grip Bench Press 3×6-8
Weighted Chin-up 3×3-5
McGill Big 3

alternate, progress & reset like SS

i have a disc bulge. i'm doing mcgill every day and the pain is starting to go away, but when i come back i want to build back up slowly. seems like this routine is perfect for me? box squats less stressful on the lower back, same with trap bar deads. not sure about floor press though.

or is there a better approach? i think SS would be too aggressive and stressful on my lower back

If you're just trying to get stronger, replace box squats with back squats. Box squats are good for working on a specific weakness and for equipped lifting, not so much for building general strength.

I don't see the main lifts anywhere in here. If you're going for powerlifting (which I assume you are, since you're in powerlifting general), then you'll need to have those. Also, rep ranges should be higher for isolations, maybe 8-12 or as high as 20, depending on the lift.

Most beginner programs will do fine for you if you really are a beginner, and there won't be any need for modifications. However, the prerequisite for training hard is having a body that isn't damaged.

If you have a disc bulge, take time off for it to heal. Don't try to train through it with variations. Wait until it feels better, then wait another week or few. More time is better. Have you talked to a doctor?

>>40702371

Box squats are very good for general strength, and they're also good for teaching newbies how to squat properly. He does need regular squats, though...

>>40702443

I'm pretty sure every set of 20 I try to do on an accessory lift ends up being a set of 21.

>>
>>40703082
You ain't doin' shit with 85 after an 80 AMRAP. Outside of a full Westside ME day pumpup you'd be lucky to hit three or four. 80 for 9 is good, take it and call it progress.
>>
>>40703134

>If you're going for powerlifting

Just general strength for now. There's really no other good place to discuss strength training on /fit/, sorry about that.

>if you really are a beginner

My strength levels are beginner now ever since the injury, but form and skill-wise I'm not. Like I said, I'm pretty sure that SS will move too quickly. The injury happened because I'm apperently very hypermobile in my lower back, and the doctor even watched the video when it happened and said it was fine, so I probably would've gotten injured regardless.

>the prerequisite for training hard is having a body that isn't damaged.

True, and no true. You have to work with what you have. If my back has atrophied and is more prone to injury, I can obviously not push myself as hard. Doesn't mean I can't train though? It just means I have to be intelligent about it.

It would be stupid to just think you're back on track just because you're pain free and then resume your old training habits.

>He does need regular squats

If the above is taken into account, do I?

Hmmm, I think bouncing makes it really easy don't you think?
I mean I could just do it ... worst that can happen is that I don't get next weeks increase right?

At that notion: does Nuckols want you to do paused reps for those AMRAPs?
I guess it simply depends on if you do your other weights paused right? Paused 1 RM = do paused AMRAPS?
>>
>>40703713

The way I see it, you got two questionable reps and five good reps while fatigued from a previous AMRAP. If you hadn't been fatigued, then those questionable reps would probably have been fine.

I don't know anything about Nuckols' programs, sorry. If you base your AMRAP percentages off of a paused max, then you should probably be pausing them.

Paused benches are good for you anyway, so might as well do it.
>>
>>40703678
It's actually that I wear my headset I the same place for years and has caused a loss I'm blood flow to all of the scalp forward of it.
>>
>>40703766
It's just that his 9+ rep AMRAPs are already so high in reps for me that I feel like I can't really demonstrate my strength because before I even use my chest properly I am just exhausted from staying tight and have weak reps because my setup is completely broken down.
Pausing reps ontop of that would make the whole thing a shit show, I believe.

I think that next week I would simply test 1 RM, maybe even paused and go from there.
If AMRAPs prediction of my max is completely off (like it's actually 135 instead of 142.5) then I will reconsider what I am doing.

What is generally suggested for weight and sets in a week that I want to test 1 RM? I definitely want 3 seession because I know that I need the form practice. But I guess just overall less volume, but not too little?

I'd argue that doing non barbell squat movements would be better. Belt squats, hack squats, leg press etc. My reasoning is even with ATG high bar you'll still have your hips shoot up. Something like the excersise I said above won't allow you to do that and will completly focus on the quads

>>
>>40704461
But why
>>
>>40703843

Look into powerlifting peaking for figuring out your weekly weights, sets, etc. for a 1RM. The general concept is to "prime" the body by building up intensity and decreasing volume over a period of time, so it's expecting to handle that heavy weight. Jumping into it after you're used to sets of nine might be less pleasant.

Well, when detailing the sets you've done, the standard architecture of a site like this would be

Lifter uses a browser (client) that sends an http request to the controller
That controller then sends a message to another piece of it's software, which sends another http request to another part of the program to query the database to get an object representing, say, a lift. That is then sent back to controller and changed into a view object that has the appropriate field which is then put into the page by means of javascript.

But that takes 100-300ms for all that to happen, when you could just have the viewmodels in memory through JS and then use that to quickly create the form and then send a JSON to the API to update the database. Would be a smoother front end.

>>
>>40706649
Any help here? I'm not realizing this is probably why my bench has stalled so much. I lose tightness all the time cuz of this shitty winged scapula
>>
>>40706931
Now* fucking auto correct
Reeeeeee
>>
>>40706931
I have a winged scapula and my bench is going up just fine tBh
>>
>squat upright
>lose power
>squat tilted over
>lose back tightness

I can't win!
>>
>>40707025
God damnit bench chad let me make excuses for my poverty bench.
>>
>>40707176
>>40707025
But in all seriousness, it didn't affect you retracting your scapula. I lose all tightness because of it on my bench. My right shoulder will basically just pop out mid press
>>
>>40706878
Mostly yeah. I have a few weeks in the office right now, but other wise still adherent to that
>>
My forearms just aren't big enough ahhh
>>
>>40707212
unironically buy a wrist roller and do heavy ass farmer's walks.
>>
>>40707106
Keep your chest up, literally
>>
I'm getting some knee pain, would wearing my knee sleeve to bed to add compression be autistic or would it potentially help?
>>
>>40707911
Wearing sleeves to sleep just sounds uncomfortable. Like do you really want to be wearing those things for 6-8 hours?
>>
>>40707931
Yeah that does sound awful. I'll chalk that idea up to autism and roll out my quads b4 I go to bed
>>
>elbows, forearms, knees, and low back are killing me after not lifting for a couple days
