When squatting, my friends ankles bend inward (the knees slightly, too). Are there exercises/ways to improve this? I think it's a general malposition, but it's mostly notable when squatting.

Knees becoming parallel or closer is ok.
Some weightlifters even make them touch, they don't explode or anything.

That means you have low ankle mobility. Look up exercises on increasing it.
