Why should/shouldn't I do crossfit?
>>
You should do CrossFit if you want to be a numale.
You shouldn't do CrossFit if you want to make gains.
>>
you'll probably meet fit girls
>>
Pros:
>decent cardio and you might make babby gains too
>lot of cute grills at crossfit
>crossfit gyms typically have nice equipment
>will make you feel athletic if you buy into their shilling

Cons:
>expensive
>you can get better results with normal cardio and lifting
>the grills are super basic and not very fun to hang out with
>it's a class, you can't do what you want. They almost never let you use the nice equipment for yourself
>the coaches are usually bad and don't care if you snap your shit up

t. Oly lifter who tried crossfit for a month.

Not going back desu.
>>
>>40652330
why would you?

If you want to compete in crossfit just do oly+pl and actually make gainz, instead of wasting money

I've competed in multiple oly meets.

>the coaches are usually bad and don't care if you snap your shit up

In the other hand, if the coaches are half decent and make sure everybody is using correct form and don't overload the bars in order to show off, it's a good workout, specially for beginners as you'll learn how to do compound lifts. Make sure to do a good 10-15 min stretching session afterwards.

Source: I've been doing crossfit for a couple of years at a decent place and never saw any of the retarded shit you usually see in "crossfit" gifs.
>>
>>40652463
this

and to add, if you are an actual athlete crossfit can be quite good for you to build up endurance, when I used to do it there was a lot of footballers and rugby guys in it, even a pro wrestler.

If you want to get swole don't bother.
>>
>>40652330
I really don't give a shit what you do.
>>
>>40652330
Don't it's dangerous and you make better gains through regular lifting.
If you're bored of your lifts, change the routine up
>>

Pros
>great quality equipment, typically.
>focuses on barbells over machines
>variety keeps it interesting
>great cardio
>peer pressure of group workouts can be a good motivator

Cons
>slower strength gains than conventional barbell training
>mixing high intensity cardio with technical overhead barbell lifts is a risky business. Never saw an injury in my time at one.
>deviation from standards is often met with scorn

Maybes
>Can be expensive. I’ve heard as high as $150/month for all the “perks” like diet plans, Olympic lift coaching or something. When I was a member of one, it was $50/month, which is decent considering the quality of equipment and benefits of working out in a group. I’m at a $20/month gym now, so even that sounds expensive now.
>Coach certification is easy to get. So you might have a fantastic coach who encourages good form and helps you identify your problems when they start to slip, or a kid who knows nothing and has no standards.

If you know how to lift, the money is not an issue, and have the discipline to not get swept away by hype, go for it. If nothing else, it’s pretty fun.

Here’s Rippetoe’s article on it, for those interested - https://www.t-nation.com/training/crossfit-the-good-bad-and-the-ugly

6 months crossfit, year and half oly, 2.5 yrs gymming before oly and 7+ yrs of rugby guy here. 23yo.

PROS:
>-if you are doing crossfit as conditioning work for the purpose of being better at any other sport, xfit will give you goodlike stamina and repetative strength.
>-If you are training for purpose of becoming a xfitter, you will definitely achieve, trough good coaching, nutrition and recovery, very high level of fitness, nice ripped body and good amount of strength, core stability
>-You have access to tons of great equipment which you can't find in "normal" gyms, like concept rowing machines (those godlike lat gains + cardio), boxes, cage thingy with lots of pullup/dip bars, tons and tons of bumper plates, nice standard oly bars, really good dumbells etc etc
>-Community is nice and most of the people is humble and will give you tons of advice with whatever you are struggling with
>-You can always stay or come before your term to work on whatever you wish + you can join some recovery classes (romwod) to help your mobility.
>-Competing between yourselves (other members in the box) is one of the best ways to push yourself more and harder
>-With good coaching you can really get good at complex movement.

CONS:
>-MAY be expensive (depends where you live, I pay 30€ monthly)
>-You maybe get under bad coaching and not work on your form before getting under some bigger weight
>-You won't get bulked as fast as you would with doing regular body-building exercises if that's your goal
>-If you are beginner at weight training and exercising, you will be frustrated long time before you get good at certain movements and get your fitness level up

Overall, /unpopular-opinion-trigger-warning/, crossfit is great if you are not beginner at weight training and you want to step up a notch and really build up your body to be stronger, durable, explosive with great stamina. I recommend anyone to try it at least for a month and then to decide whether or not they like it.

CrossFit is good, expensive but good, you have bad coaches in every fkin type of sport (never had an injury in my 3 years of CrossFit, coaches really watch your form and tell you to lower weight if necessary)
Like half of the proclaimed 'crossfit gifs' are not even in a fkin crossfit gym, just retards in the gym.

If YOU are stupid and YOU fuck it up, don't blame it on the sport, same thing for EVERY type of exercise
>>
crossfit is like paying for your ticket to snap city

A big issue with crossfit and crossfitesque workouts is that their practitioners believe that the more complex their workout is, the better it'll be for them. For example, that old video of the chicks and numales doing axle clean and presses, despite obviously not knowing what the fuck they're doing. They don't believe in working towards anything, or breaking down the movements into simpler forms for practice. It's all "I want to snatch, so without any experienced coaching and no prior knowledge, I'm just going to imitate what it looks like from videos."

The only reasons to do crossfit
>>your boss does crossfit and you are already a beast
>>meet girls

those are the only reasons
