Not necessarily. Sugar is a carb, and sugar is bad. But not all carbs are sugar.

Really, it depends on your goals.

If you're bulking, IIFYM.

If you're cutting, sugar will make you feel hungrier, and IMO carbs are the easiest source of calories to restrict in your diet, since you CAN'T cut protein, and fat will make you feel full.

Non-natural foods are the enemy. Just about anything that is natural (whole grains, meat, vegetables, fruit, etc) is good for you. Your body isn't made for all of the processed foods we have today, the white bread, soda, candy, fast food, high fructose corn syrup, and all that. That crap is what makes people fat and unhealthy.

Carbs are something that every human society has used and needed. Natural carbs are fine. Hell, you can even live off of potatoes for long periods of time. If you can live off of that one particular food for years, it's not unhealthy. Healthy grains have been the main source of calories source for many civilizations. Get your carbs from oatmeal, potatoes, and brown rice and not wonder bread, soda, and candy and you'll be great. Carbs are NOT bad for you.
