Normaly if someone gain fat in their belly, it's a cortisol (inflamation, stress) problem. But in that case, the skin would be more loose, and the belly more saggy.
When they look like this, it's usualy the liver leaking into the belly. It's normaly caused by a crappy diet or to much beer and alcohol. This is a pretty bad case of basketball belly

That's just not true though. I began by using a PT to show me the ropes, first by using the free sessions offered to new members, then a student discount deal. That was 3 times a week for 2 months, after which I cut it down to once every 2 weeks, during which he helped me update/change my routine as was necessary.

Honestly if I hadn't taken those sessions it would have taken me a lot longer to feel comfortable in the gym. I've missed 1 day since I started and that was early on when I was still working on the lifestyle change. What worked for you isn't necessarily what will work for others, anon.

It is important to note there is a huge difference between extremely low calorie diets and actual (water) fasting. If you eat 0 calories your body will actually hold on to lean mass and it has some health benefits, jacks up good hormones metabolism actually increases slightly your body burns fat and puts you into alpha predator mode to go kill some food.

If you just eat a very small amount of calories, your body goes into 'starvation' mode and you get fukt your metabolism goes down and shit and your hormones get all shitty. Essentially you get enough calories your body doesn't go into fat burning mode it's still relying on carbs so it breaks down protein for you liver to convert to glycogen (which stresses the fuck out of your liver of course). Obviously if you're on keto this doesn't happen since you're in a fat burning state already in that case.
