Do them every workout.
Do at least 3 sets, go to failure only on the last one.

Grip width doesn't really affect lat growth, you use more arms in narrower grip, but can do more reps, so it evens out.

Just do more of them. Bodyweight Pull-ups are one of the things you can do every workout.
Also try to learn muscle ups.

I just kept trying every workout and slowly just got better until one day I could get both elbows over the bar.
