Daily fucking reminder that if it's not a conventional deadlift it doesn't fucking count.

You faggot deadlifting 500lbs+ with your wide stance sumo shit are weak as fuck and you aren't deadlifting properly.

Literally shorters your ROM by half and gives you better leverage.

This is like benching with a 2 inch ROM with your ass off the bench - it doesn't fucking count.
>>

it's a lot more technical than conventional and only advantageous if you're a manlet

This is literally the opposite of true.

Sumo deadlift is easier in every sense of the word. It requires less mobility, less strength, less technique. Your leverage completely changes.

>Shortenening your ROM by half is only advantegous to manlets

Pure delusion.

>>
>>40551604
Come on now

Mixed grip prevents the bar rolling out of your fingers, providing same effect like straps except slightly worse and with imbalance
>>
>>40552130
>less mobility
hip adduction is much greater in the sumo deadlift
>less strength
most of the top deadlifters in the world pull conventional
>less technique
no, sumo has a much smaller "groove" and setup off the floor must be absolutely perfect
>shortening your ROM
ROM is irrelevant in a 1rm attempt, max attempts last seconds at the longest and fatigue is not a factor - you either produced enough torque to get through the most difficult part of the lift, or you didn't

ROM would only be relevant in a for-reps challenge, which is why you see Chris dindu the bukkake warrior Duffin doing insane for reps sumo deadlifts with an overcooked spaghetti bar

>>
>>40552130

>Anon on nipponese sewing exchange forum says otherwise

Before you ask
Chris Duffin
Ed Coan
>>
I find it funny the way you are allowed to use straps, suits and hitch the fuck out of it when deadlifting in strongman but sumo is banned lmao
>>
>>40552203
less stress on the lower back

more stress on quads, glutes

shorter ROM = less fatigue, so can be trained in higher volume (this is compounded by the low back being slowest to recover)

if you have the hip mobility (a lot of this is genetic, based on geometry of your hip) to do it you might prefer it, lighter lifters tend to prefer it (not as much torso rigidity required, which tends to be something big guys are better at), and short limbed manlets usually prefer it too
>>
>>40552130
not the guy you responded to, and not sure if you're baiting or not, but

>less mobility
wrong. why do you think big guys all pull conventional? it's just because they can't get themselves into a good position to pull sumo.
>less strength
the strength curve is just different. sumo is harder at the bottom and easier as it goes up while conventional is easier off the floor and harder at lockout.
>less technique
wrong. sumo takes much longer to learn to do properly and there is a lot more that you can fuck up on a sumo pull
>your leverage completely changes
no shit
>shortening ROM by half
this is hyperbole right

>>40552195
le fatass plates and spaghetti noodle bar man

>>40552203
if your leverages are shit for conventional pulling it helps make the pull more leg dominant

>>40552235
iirc that's because some time in the late-80s they did this rack pull-esque event at WSM and one guy did sumo and had a literal 1 inch ROM so they just disallowed it entirely afterwords

>>
>>40552275

>>
>>40552203
Easier lockouts, harder off the floor
Tighter, but also requires perfect setup, while you can bruteforce through in conv if you are out of position
For some people easier depending on their leverages and build, for some worse.

Im lanky guy and according to some website with my wingspan / height ratio i should pull conv. But i still do sumo from time to time because it works my quads hamstrings and glutes beautifully with not that much lower back stress. Especially like medium heavy sets of ten.
I dont feel as good durin conv but thatight be just my shit conv setup

if it's pure delusion, why don't you present a counterargument?

ROM is completely irrelevant in 1rm attempts, it only matters if you produced enough torque at the joints to get past the most difficult part of the range of motion

with sumo, that's right off the floor

i think you might be the first person i've seen who is actually not intelligent enough to lift, you should stop before you hurt yourself

Is it common for your deadlift to fluctuate quite a bit?

shortfag 5'8 @ 185 lb, btw..

For example, one week I can pull 500. Next week, 505. Then, out of nowhere, I am barely able to get 475 up. After that, barely 480. It's like I just fucking reset.

Does lack of sleep and just having a shitty day really effect it that much? Or should I take a week off when this shit happens?

>>40554812
strongman?
>>
>>40554992
if you are pulling near maximal weights week after week that's a problem, unless that's an E1RM based off a rep max or something

deadlift performance is most sensitive to fatigue and arousal, a bad bench day is like -20lbs to my max and a bad deadlift day is like -100lbs

lack of sleep and having a shitty day will throw your deadlift more than any other lift

best dl is 525 but close to 550 squat lol

Your squat is better than your DL? WTF is wrong with you? My DL is always at least 150lbs over my ATG highbar squat.
>>
>>40556287
At higher levels the squat can often go higher than the deadlift.

You will likely see your deadlift vs squat weight narrowing if you keep getting stronger.
>>
Ive done sheiko for two years and my squat is at nearly 500, bench at 335...and deadlift at 525

465@220.

Last event in a competition so it wasn't a true max but probably about as much as I could have hit at that point. I've also done a 440 axle pull and (more recently) a 380 snatch-grip deadlift.

Sadly, that's the closest thing to a good lift I have.

>pretty much everyone can sumo more than conventional
this is staggeringly wrong

my sumo (which I do as an auxiliary movement) is nowhere near my conventional
>try quarter rep squatting
you're just proving my point, quarter squats are not easier because of the reduced range of motion, they are easier because they skip the part of the lift that requires the most torque at the joints

this would be analogous to doing a rack pull, not a sumo deadlift

a better example would be benching with an ultrawide grip or squatting with an ultrawide stance - depending on your leverages, neither of those are inherently easier, while ROM will certainly be reduced
>>
>>40555881
>>40558401
additionally, think about this

if ROM was the main factor in half-squats or half-bench being easier than the full ROM counterpart, then doing the lower half of the rep only would allow for greater weight to be used

but we know from experience that this is not the case
>>
>>40558401

Oddly enough, a lot of people don't end up being that much stronger (or stronger at all) on rack pulls than from the floor, depending on the exact pull height.

There's enough variables involved that trying to judge just about any "if you did X weight on this exercise you'd do Y weight on that one" is incredibly rough unless you actually know the lifter.
>>
>>40558436
exactly

one of the accessories on Sheiko is a pull from just below the knees off blocks or off pins, which is commonly a sticking point in the deadlift

plenty of people have a harder time with this variant than with the normal off the floor deadlift, despite the longer ROM

a quarter squat would be analogous to a rack pull done from above this sticking point (wherever it falls exactly for the lifter), knees or higher
>>
>>40558469
despite the shorter ROM*
>>
>>40551757
how much more do you pull sumo?
>>
>>40551095
I've just hit my pr last week with 120kg @85kg 186cm, one series 3 reps of 120. Was proud as shit. I am not in the gym long.
>>
>>40555881
What he fails to communicate is that the most important thing in a max attempt is to simply get the bar moving. If you can't lift 250 kg from the floor it doesn't matter if you only have to move it 10 cm.

The reason some people can break inertia in a rack pull with weights that they can't budge from the floor is that their body gets into a better position there and their leverages allow them to produce more force.

ROM is of course important but if you can't budge the weight off the floor it simply doesn't matter, and many normal weight men have a harder time off the floor with sumo because they get worse leverages from the floor.
>>
not been lifting that long, but hit 180kg @ 105kg bw on Monday and definitely felt like I could go for more. Will be testing again soon aiming for 200kg
>>
Guys, currently I am doing SL5X5 and yesterday I dead lifted my own bodyweight ( 80 kg ) for the first time ever which felt really good.

Here is a video on that set.

I suspect lower back rounding while pulling up. It even looks like my whole back goes round while pulling, especially in the last rep.

What do you see happening wrong ? What can I improve ?

I started at 275 and hit 405 in about 9 months while bodyweight went from 165 to 190.

Took me a year to get 475 and then 3 more months to hit 495 which is basically 2yr lifting mark. The day i hit 495 i was so hyped that i went and got 515.

I was pretty satisfied lifting 5 plate and never bothered increasing the weight for a good 3 years.

I just hit 545 a month ago just to prove i can still get stronger on my pulls but i doubt ill ever train deadlift over 3plate for a long time. No injuries or anything it just really burns me out and lifes pretty busy.
