I've recently started doing Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strenght Program.
Most of the major exercises are 3x5, while my friends do 5x5, what's the difference between 3x5 and 5x5? Am i doing enough?

Is it more or less weight that they are doing in their sets?

They're doing their top weight that they can pull off in 5 sets, sometimes failing in the last set

You gotta increase that weight, and eat big.
Condition yourself and watch your form. If it's hard for you to be doing those real heavy lifts at just three sets then you gotta decrease the weight a little and build your muscles by lifting.
Don't sacrifice form for weight.
