My muscles feel completely destroyed after going to the gym for the first time yesterday. Whatever I do, it feel extremely sore with a bit of pain.

take a day off, you won't feel much better tomorrow but go to the gym anyway. 1 day on, 1 day off until you stop being sore, after which you can go all out

It's too late for you but my number one tip for gym noobs is not to push yourself too hard in the first week because if you are so sore the day after why would you want to go back. It's better to under work and be busting to go back and do more.
Just stuck it up accept that you have done too much and wait a week before the muscles repair themselves enough to stop hurting.
