Is military a factor in anyone's fitness journey here?

Discuss
>>
Yup. Its the only reason I run
>>
yeah.

im still planning on either joining infantry and going through BRC primer there or taking a recon contract and risking it after finishing my degree.

im gonna need a perfect PFT at minimum so a lot more running and much less lifting is in my future.
>>
No, the military is full of faggots who kill civilians

Enjoy dying for nothing
>>
It was literally the only thing that kept me from being a worthless fat normie for the last 10 years. now that im out its time for penn station for lunch and chinese buffet for dinner
>>
fml I just want to lift weights but have to do all this hiking and running in preparation for paratrooper training
>>
Yes I am frequently running from the military.

Same. I'm working on push-up and pull-ups, thinking about going to OCS in the winter
>>
Yeah, I started running yesterday for the first time because I'm gonna get in shape to go into the military.

My reasons are combination of love for my country and president. Also nothing really going my way here in civilian life, no gf, no friends etc...
>>
>>40513399
If you really just started running, don't over do it. Build up the distance and speed gradually or shin splints will be the end of you. Have good running shoes and form

I was overweight and lazy before being conscripted after high school. My year in the military taught me the importance of keeping a fit body, and showed me how fun it can be to push your limits.

Best tips to anyone planning on going army: run a lot. Running is the basis of all activity in the military.

Not sure what countries you guys are from but I have never seen a military man look fit. They are usually DYEL or fat. If you're in a car club a lot of the younger guys with decent cars spent their enlistment bonus on the car, so you can see what typical army men look like. I also worked on a base for a while. This is in America BTW so your countries may vary.
>>
Yeah, I'm hoping if I get fit enough, the state will let me murder people in other countries.

Was a big factor in my inability to preserve muscle mass. working 12+ hours a day, high stress, depression, drinking. I was good on neurological gains though.

Been out for a year, put on more lean muscle, lowered body fat, reduced stress, stopped drinking. Life is good.

Yes. Lost about 30 kg and got in shape. Started at 105 kg, dropped to 75 in 8 months. Military service is mandatory in my country, if the recruit fits the criteria (citizen, healthy, no criminal offences etc). After that I promised myself to never get out of shape again. That was 10 years ago and I have kept my promise. I run and lift weights regularly.

I start my BASIC course for the RAF in June.

I've been lifting for 2 years now and only now has it clocked on to me that gains/runs are fuck all for passing fitness tests.

Starting whole new routine where I do nothing but endurance training and anaerobic shit until I can move without it hurting me.

Anyone got any tips for bleep test?

Yeah, I'm getting ready to go talk to officer recruiters. Thinking about OCS. Haven't decided which branch yet.
My problem is that I have some joint problems and osgood schlatter and it's painful as fuck.

Always played sports, always worked out, but at 24 It's incredible how much more I feel the aches as opposed to me 4 years ago

Always wanted to do operator shit but I'm worried my body just won't let me.
Seriously considering going on HGH to pass that plateau and grind past the pain

You at 80 will look back on you at 24 and laugh that you thought you knew what pain was

I've survived cancer, meningitis, a stabbing and a car crash. As well as Od'ing and also drowning. I know pain. It's consistent chronic pain that gets to me.
>>
>>40516493
hey man, ive been reading shit about specifically recon for almost 2 years now, read hundreds of posts about people who have dropped/ in over their heads etc.

ive also heard a lot of people who made it through without any prior swim training, weren't the most fit but didnt give up.

since you dropped, can you tell me how prepared you thought you were, the point where you thought you were ready and if going for it was something you've wanted for a very long time?

also a specific run-down of your day to day BRPC routine would be helpful.
>>
>>40516493

also if you "dropped" out because of pneumonia wouldnt you have the option of being placed into holding until the next group? unless it was a true DOR.

There's no reason not to tell them. They're not going to tell you that you can't go in because of that shit. Your last sentence explains it. Nobody, especially a recruiter gives a shit. waiting on the piss test is a good idea, but don't wait too long for PT. You will get plenty of practice at it while you're in boot camp. I got in basic shape before I got in, and by the time I was finished with boot camp, I was at the upper levels of the fitness tiers. You're going to eat a ton and work out a ton.

>Why would a doctor not let me because I survived cancer and meningitis?
Do either of those have a chance of coming back? That's the only reason I can think of.
>>
>>40518375
cancer never really goes though
>>
Fuck NO, at least as long as German army is concerned (yeah it's a joke but still). I was conscripted 10 years ago, and in the 3 months of basic training, I gained from 74 to 80kg (at 1.90m), and mostly not muscle
I'm someone who never eats breakfast and have been doing (unintended) IF pretty much since I'm 10 or so (first meal of the day usually 4pm), but during conscription we had forced breakfast at 5:30, lunch at 11:30, dinner at 16:30 and finally in the evening out of boredom we'd hang out in the barrack pub, having another 1-2 beers and often a schnitzel or bratwurst with fries - that diet was just a recipe for disaster.
Nowadays I have a TDEE of 2950 (calculated from tracking and weight changes), but during army time I was likely even more active and younger, so let's say it was 3200 back then. So judging from my weight gain back then, I must've been on an average intake of 3800 at the time, yuck
>>
>>40518298
Spoken like an actual grunt
>>
>>40518430
I mean, they are diseases. Anyone can get them. Cancer and meningitis can always strike back but they are not chronic illnesses. I'm more likely to get flak about my Osgood Schlatter than those just from a purely logical point of view. Osgood affects my knee, it affects my ability to do squats or jump alot. I've learned over the years to overcome the pain and just plow through shit and I did a 45 lbs ruck march for 11.3 miles in under 4 hours 2 weeks ago. the pain is consistent. Surprisingly the pain is worse when I'm just chilling.
>>
>>40518461
are you a walking corpse
>>
>>40518416
Cheers for answering my questions, it's much appreciated.
>>
>>40518481
lol, more of a mule. I'm ok at the basic stuff, pushups, situps, pullups etc. I would pass with an excellent or upper levels of good on the PT. But tell me to start marching and I just go. Spent my entire childhood going across my city for hours on end on foot, skateboard, bike. I would do at least 40+ miles a day just moving around for like 8 years of my life.
>>
>>40518461
Ok, but from the military's standpoint, if those diseases do come back, then you have to be med boarded out. It would be a waste of their training dollars and med services.
>>

Well meningitis can't come back. I would literally have to catch it again.

Cancer is a little trickier, but considering I had it as an infant and I'm 24 now, and my doctor has screened for it during every physical and say's I'm incredibly healthy I don't see it coming back any time soon.
I smoked cigs for 8 years as well and my doctor said my cardio ability was outstanding.
>>
Soon to be leaving for Navy basic training here. How are the gyms and such at the boats/stations? Are there gyms at basic? What is the food situation like? Can i freely bulk and cut reguraly? Do i need to start looking into serious bodyweight training?

Haven't gone and spoken to recruiters yet. I'm the guy with weed in his system who's waiting. Also I Haven't decided if I want to do Navy or Army yet. Definitely trying to go officer. I plan on setting up an appointment with my doctor in about 2-3 weeks and telling him what my plans are. But I know a doctor who did MEPS ages ago and I told him my medical history and said I should be good.

Anyone can get cancer at pretty much anytime. So given that basic fact it wouldn't make sense for them to just say nah.
Yes, I do have a slightly higher probability of developing it again. But highly unlikely.

>>40518651
Oh yeah, aside from not having anything meaningful to do, you are being hounded from the top down on not finding anything meaningful to do. Every new leadership that comes in tries to implement a "solution" (read: opr bullet) for the problem, but it inevitably just turns into more bull shit busy work and training.
>>
>>40518653
Oh, the way you were talking it seemed like you were wondering why they had already rejected you.

Yeah, good luck. Navy always seemed a lot more chill. Air Force treats you the best, so that would be my first choice if I were you. Try to get on a pilot billet in either one though. Hell, get one even if you go army. Aviation lives the good life.
>>
>>40518342
And he called Mattis a "soldier." Fucking loser.
>>
>>40518728
My main concern with airforce is I don't want to be a desk jockey. It seems to be the consistent story about airforce unless you are flying planes.
I'm too old for the Air Force Academy (Although I certainly think I could pass with flying colors). I went to a college prep highschool, have been working since I was 9, did great in school, etc. I would fucking love to fly jet fighters but as far as I know I no longer qualify just because of age.
>>
>>40518547
I'm training to be an officer in the navy, and from what i've been told there are full gyms on every ship, they're usually full of marines, the food is literally just ok, and i don't know what the doctors are like testing you for substances.
>>
>>40518771
infantry here

The army, especially combat trades, are huge gains goblins. It's going to fuck up your knees and back pretty fast and you'll spend a lot of time in the field eating shitty rations with no gym access.

Nothing wrong with being a desk jockey in the air force. Yeah you might get chirped by the grunts but its better longterm.
>>
>>40518284
I did research. Officer shit is likely not for me. I'm not going to drop out to be an 03xx or 11B either. From my previous post, I understand that you think I don't know much about my options, but I do.
>>
>>40518625
Right now pay isn't to much of a concern for me, i'm just not content unless i'm constantly being challenged. That may all change though, so i'll bear that advice in mind.

swimming frequently i suppose. i was in a holding platoon for several weeks so i swam 6x a week, got it the day we had a pft. i didnt DOR so im allowed to go back
>>40517785
under normal circumstances yes you could be recycled to next class. i had pneumonia symptoms happening prior to a pickup so i bombed my pft for a pickup, and my last one i hurt my hip. if you get pneumonia while actually in the course then youll be fine. they were just thrashing the class i was in because they wanted to i guess, out of 70 peopl eabout 12 graduated. i was prepared mostly on land and swimming/finning, what gets nearly everyone is treading water without your hands in cammies. go to a deep ass pool, take your hands out of the water and either frog kick or look up eggbeater kick. if you can join a water polo team that will help tremendously.

as far as your average day goes, friday is always a ruck run, weekends off, monday through thursday is land pt with a sandbag, or a "pigegg" is what they called it with basic exercises like squats, lunges, thrusters etc. then usually a run of some sort or maybe sprints. you do this until afternoon chow, then about an hour of rest after lunch. then the pool portion starts, with a swim to start, we used combat swim stroke, breast stroke, freestyle, and did intervals with butterfly plus finning, then the treading without hands aka "the deep end card". tread with a brick in your hand and find out how to bottom sample, the pool is 16 and a half feet deep. im eligible to go back but honestly i might just go MARSOC at this point since they do more direct action work plus reconnaisance missions

Over 50% of contract recon wannabes fail BRC. A 300 PFT alone isn't gonna cut it. Recon guys I know can swim like fish so you better be able to swim at least 1000 meters at a time without stopping.

I would highly, highly advise you against picking up a recon contract. You don't even know if you can hack it in the basic infantry yet. Go basic 03 then lat move if you think you're good enough, you'll have a much better chance of passing

>source: marine 0317
>>
>>40519352
This guy pretty much sums it up for you
>>40519383

Officers aren't kicking in doors and pulling triggers my dude. That's what enlisted guys do. Officers arent better than enlisted or vice versa, its two totally different jobs. Think of it like a sports team; officers are the coaches and enlisted are the players.

I know some badass officers but their job isn't to be badass, it's to write up orders in the COC
>>
>>40519778
Not even in the service faggot. Have worked everything from shitty restaurant gigs to sales, to contract negotiation and everything in between.

Civilian life id whack as fuck. A bunch of children who think they have life figured out even well into their adult life who do some bullshit useless job and then get fucked up on the weekends to cope with how miserable their existence is.
I'm glad I'm leaving it behind.
>>
>>40520119
If you go to SOI West you'll have a chance to go recon if you volunteer for it during ITB. If you fail BRC you'll still have an 03 contract and still be a grunt.

If you go in with a recon contract right off the bat and fail BRC there's an extremely high likelihood you'll be redesignated as a POG.

This anon is correct BRC (well mostly the BRC prep course) has an extremely high attrition rate.

Work on your PFT but most importantly work on your swimming. Most in shape 18-20 year olds have the legs to run a sub 20min 3 mile but you need to be a strong swimmer to pass BRC.
>>
>>40520163
If you're a Company Grade 0302 and you get deployed to an AO that is hot you're going to have a chance to pull triggers/coordinate CAS/ blow people to pieces (as long as you aren't a piece of shit who is scared to leave the PB, which is your choice).

>>40520617
Honestly man it's a terrible idea. Take it from a grunt who actually does R+S, that shit is fucking hard and if you fail as a contract recon, you'll get POGed out and be a bitch for the rest of your enlistment. Your best bet is thus:

>go infantry
>pass boot camp
>go to SOI and become a machinegunner (rah)
>spend a few months in the fleet, see how you like grunt life
>go to the a recon brief (they do them like no shit every two weeks)
>do their little screener and see what they tell you

I've been to a couple of those briefs and they told me the difference between contract recon guys and guys from the fleet is like 50% passing to 80% passing. And if you fail in the fleet you'll still go back to your same unit as a grunt, just be prepared for everyone to roast you.

>>40521473
I'm pretty sure you can only be denied if your command has a good enough reason, never seen it happen because generally the guys who are motivated enough to try out for recon are good marines and have no reason to be denied in the first place.

as a grunt, lat moving to recon is different, you can technically lat move at any time as long as you have at least two years left on your contract (this is because they want to get at least one deployment out of you)

If you're going recon the only primary MOSs I would recommend would be rifleman, machine gunner, and maybe assaultman. Being a rifleman will make you the best all around grunt, but machinegunners learn the 4 machine guns of the infantry so it will give you an edge down the road. It'll also prepare you for carrying the extra weight required for r+s missions. Assault men are a good asset because they're good with explosives and can make shape charges and shit. I don't know much about it but there's an assaultman in my sniper platoon and he's been an asset on multiple occasions. Stay away from mortarman and TOW gunner because they're basically useless MOSs and they're fags.

Depends on the type of boat. Submariner here.

SSGNs tend to have full gym setups. The one I rode had a 3D smith machine, Jacob's ladders, rope pulling machines, tons of different dumbbells and flat benches, pretty much anything you can think of was stuffed between missile tubes.

Fast attack is different. Guys can typically find somewhere to cram a bench and barbell if they're dedicated enough. When weights get secured we find small guys, put ratchet straps around them, and bench/row/overhead press them.

I'd assume that if we didn't provoke the muslims through invasion of their countries they might not respond with small scale terror attacks against us..

We could also simply not let them in to the west, who cares what they are doing in their shitholes, it really does not matter to the the average citizen of Europe/US.

thank god i'm not a government drone that gets sent out to get killed in a jewish-financed war against islamists.

This isn't the 1930's anymore, cuck.

Kikes don't promote patriotism or fighting spirit, they stir civil unrest and inward collapse. They bring about the destruction of nations by breeding them out and mixing their genes with subhumans. War and prowess in battle is the Aryans supreme gift

kek
The war on terror is being financed by jews. if israel wants the USA to go to war, the USA listens like a good goy.
The USA is a vassal state of israel, the whole middle east is destabilized because of this, which in fact promotes mass immigration to europe.
>>
>>40526292
I wish USA and Israel would just wipe out the entire middle east. Shit, I'd even let Israel keep it if it meant no more mudslimes. Unfortunately, Jews are much more sinister

Not gonna say i disagree. But the problem lies deeper.

But there literally wasn't any provocation on the US part. From Egypt to modern day Turkey was the doing of the French and UK.

The only reason why the US went into the middle east was BLOC selling nukes and AKs to racist pinko blacks to fight SADF and Rhodies. Which would have lead to what Muslims have been doing to Europe for a very long time.

Invading through Spain.

What did you do for your 1.5, what did you do for your bleepboop?

You don't need to be that fit desu, and for the beep test just practice a bit, 9.10 is pretty easy to hit.
>>
>>40518000
Start to slow down about 5-4 metres before the line, that's what the pti told me to do and it seems to make it easier
>>
>>40521741
ok, im already very fit by normal standards, but i understand its going to take a ton more work to get to the level where ill feel confident going in.

i plan on giving myself one full year of focused training to change what im bad at, or have little experience with -in this case all the different swim types and just general practice.
i also have zero experience using fins and ive heard there is a timed swim in the actual BRC into the surf with packs.

How did you prepare yourself? how long did you take to prepare yourself and what if any equipment did you buy in order to help?

Quick rundown

Officer pros:
>dat higher status
>people call you sir, have to salute you
>more money
>get to fly helicopters if aviation
>get more of a chance to go to Ranger school if combat arms
>more transferable into the civilian world regardless of MOS (mostly because you have to have a college degree to commission)

Officer cons:
>apart from PL time (which lasts like a year) you won't do any high speed shit
>just paper work and staff stuff
>you're in trouble any time some idiot private fucks up or gets arrested
>you're in trouble for literally any bad thing that happens under your command
>you're responsible for everyone: everyone else eats, sleeps, and drinks before you do

Enlisted pros:
>Get to do high speed army shit like shoot and blow things up
>don't need any work experience or degree, can sign up out of high school
>Don't have to hold yourself to a higher moral standard, get to fuck around and get in trouble because it's "just joe shit"
>Eventually become an NCO which basically gives you the same "elevated status" as an officer, privates have to respect you, etc
>until you are an NCO, you literally only need to care about yourself, your weapon, your equipment, etc
>any time you fuck up, your officers or NCOs will get more in trouble than you

Enlisted Cons:
>you start at rock bottom, everyone is above you and you have to take their shit because it's literally your job
>you make fuck all for money
>Unless your job is logistics or tech, you won't have many opportunities in the civilian world
>you're probably going to get some cringey "death before dishonor" tattoo

Hope that helps.

Any tips for taking the AFOQT?

Same for any standardized test: prepare, be smart, get a good night's sleep?

Looking to hear if any milfags have some insight.

I'm interested in joining the military as a physician which I know is one of the few fields they always need due to turnover. However, when I was working on a masters degree a few years I was feeling like a depressed sad cunt for a little while (mostly because I didn't know what to do with my life) and I talked to a counselor ONCE. She gave me antidepressants which I never even took and only had the prescription for one month but she asked me if I drank and did drugs and I told her the truth which is that I was drinking and smoking pot tons and that I had done mushrooms once.

So, that was a few years ago and I've been clean and healthy since, and I'm competitive for a field the military wants, but I officially have on my counseling record that I was stupid and smoked and drank a bunch back as a student. Any chance I could get a waiver? I know it's all on an individual basis so it's hard to really know. Would a normie non-Marine One type physician even have their grad school counseling records turned over if there's no indication elsewhere that it even exists?

I guess if we go to war with Russia or something it would increase my odds considerably ha.

Thanks brehs.

Should be good imo. No experience, but we need doctors pretty bad. LPN here, enlisted. Worth a shot.
>>
Will they look into my juvinile record to find out I had a few 5150's or am I worrying too much about that? Want into navy, but I'm worried I'll be DQ'd and permab&.

That's encouraging. Other than that stuff my application is pretty straight laced. Eagle scout, no legal troubles ever not even a speeding ticket, good grades in school, etc. Wish I could go back and tell my younger self not to jeopardize potential careers by making short sighted choices but we all have to grow up somehow I suppose.

I figure I might as well go to the local medical recruiter and just be honest with him and see what he says. Worst case I don't get a waiver and I go on with my life.
>>
>>40531756

Also, I'm interested in Army if that makes a difference. I have experience in infectious disease research and would be interested in doing some more if I go to USUHS.
>>
>>40531756
They don't know what you don't tell them. They do not spend money to find out who your doctor, insurance, therapist is. They do not spend money to call them ask for your damn records.
>>
Yup, it's still my barometer for fitness.

If i can't do 20 pullups, 100 crunches and a sub 24 run, I know I'm in bad shape.
>>
>>40530398
Start practicing your swimming. Breast stroke is faster and easier to learn than CSS. Also FOCUS on GLIDING. Really focus on that and running. If you're delayed entry I'd suggest talking to the Navy recruiters and ask for the NSW coordinator. Ask them if it's ok if you train with the NSW (naval special warfare) candidates. I'd suggest focusing maybe 2-3 times a week on weights. Emphasize on your legs it'll help with finning. Work on pull ups doing latters and rowing. Lastly do run swim runs. Nothing will prepare you for ruck runs btw.

It actually fucked my body up and metabolism.
MREs are fucking terrible for you bit a lot of times thats all you have to eat. And most of the time it was all about muscle build and not enough cardio to burn what youve eaten. Im in the reserves now and trying to recover my body from what the army jas turned it into
