When did you read this book and realize it was right?
The core message that anyone can become proficient at anything is great to inspire people. To pretend talent doesn't exist and is only a function of practice is naive and childish though.
I'm not saying this to "brag" but I came to that conclusion myself. It is not that difficult to realise

If you meet the basic genetic parameters for an activity and you have access to the right training and you thoughtfully pursue it you will almost certainly be successful (unless you get severely injured or you're not willing to take PEDs.)
If you're 5'9" you can work hard enough to play in the NBA like Isaiah Thomas. You're not going to be a linebacker in the NFL though no matter how hard you try or what drugs you take.
