Barefoot/minimalist running thread?

I'm getting back into it and my calves seem to be lagging at getting the strength they need. Seems like I'm stuck at about 3 miles.

How do you get into barefoot running? Just find a decent field? Does it have to be dry? Im an ok runner but I just find it hard to mentally switch off.

I have access to several miles of nice woodland trails which helps. I'd probably start with a minimalist shoe, which will enable you to run in a variety of environments
