What are fits hobbies outside of lifting?
ITT: Talk about fit hobbies general.

I do blacksmithing, I make mostly household things cooking utensils and the like. I make skinning knifes and general use knives too. Been getting into tomahawk making for competitive throwing too. Didn't even know that was a thing until I was asked to make some.
Pic related, my newest made thrower.
>>
I'm a gamer :P
>>
I play dungeons and dragons. Im a big guy who pretends to be a dyel wizard.
>>
>>40493217
That seems to be most people here. I used to game but I've lost interest in it lol
>>
>>40493224
I used to do that too in college. Good times.

OP here, here's a knife I made for my dad. My own personal project usually sit on the back burner while I fill orders. Glad I got this one done though.
>>
I play video games, make memes browse other boards and make fun of other people silently or out loud in my college thing with my friend, we are basically the same mind.

OP again, The first tomahawk I ever made and a few hooks I made for jackets and the like that day.
>>
I don't have hobbies that's why I hit the gym 6 times a week and wish sunday could pass quicker since it's my rest day.
I'm a very sad person but lifting makes me happy in a way despite having no hope for my future
>>
I travel when I can and I play miniature games. I like hanging out in coffee shops too
>>
>>40493205

I'm actually really interested in blacksmithing, but I don't know where to start.

Any tips, OP?
>>
>>40493437
YouTube bro. Everything I know I literally learned from YouTube.
Even how to make a homemade forge.
>>
>>40493319
Comfy as fuck.

I've got 30 feet of railroad track lying in my backyard, want it?
>>
>>40493205
How much money have you invested in that hobby? Like furnaces anvils and stuff? I'm jelly, I've only ever made 2 knives at school when I was 13
>>
>>40493471
Hahaha idk what I would do with it besides make anvils. I have a Swedish made anvil from like the 17th century. I just refinished it too. Traded a few pieces for it.
>>
>>40493485
Not as much as you would think. But at the same time a good bit. It's easier to do over time. People mostly just give me materials. The forge I use was already built and functional. It's an armory forge from the original settlers in my area that the city maintains. I kinda fell into it desu.
I have a forge at home I made from some pipes and a brake drum.

OP I used to blacksmith as a kid and I wanted to invest in a medium sized workshop with a good 150+ plus anvil.

I was thinking of learning how to make fancy gates and stuff for money and then doing knives on the side as a hobby. Do you think this would be possible? I have enough money saved up for about a year of self teaching.

Depends on my mood, I almost never sit still or relax and if I do I shitpost here which isn't that often.
On off days I'll take a bus to a random forest and hike and forage, I always download some albums and just listen to music while doing this, when I'm in the forest I'll just listen to my surroundings, I make awesome lunch packs to take a break while hiking/foraging.
On regular daysit depends on ehat time I'm free. When I dont have plans with friends I just go out and talk to random people. Been doing this for a year now and I know a shitload of people and meet people I know everywhere I go .If it's really lateI'll just learn some dance moves if I'm not to sore otherwise I draw or talk to people on fb/IG while listening to music. I NEED people to talk to or music to keep me distracted from my thoughts. I also need alone time to zone out and that's mostly during my hikes and when I lift.
I also am a good cook but I dont see that as a hobby even thou I cook twice a day.
Onfe every two weeks I go partying and get absolutrly get shitfaced, showing offy dance moves. idk if that counts as a hobby.
>>
>>40494623
Yeah my mother lived in a small wine village in Germany and the town blacksmith had a HUGE shop where he would make wrought iron gates with metal grapes and other designs.

I have a health science degree, but I did some soul searching recently and If I could make a decent living then I wouldn't mind investing in creating a blacksmith workshop.

Meh, I agree with this.

Forgive me if I sound a bit preaxhy, but I feel the older you get, the more it is expected of you to just mellow put and become a bland MOFO. No interests, no hobbies, no self control. Just go to work, watch some shows, and occasionally do stuff with friends. If you have any real moral standards or discipline, you can very easily get lumped together with the extreme faggots on the left and right. Kinda like a scare tactic based off of social status. "What's that? You're doing X? Well I see on the news that X is only done by people on the left/right. Me and my social group don't like people on the left/right. We don't like you now."

Again, sorry if I sounded like a faggot myself, just something I seem to have noticed

Perhaps it is because of where I live, but on multiple occasions from multiple people I have been called some Democrat/Liberal because I want to eat healthy for gains n shit. I'm not vegan, nor in their faces, nor a hard ass, or whatever. Just saying no to some leftover fries from BK apparently makes me a prude. I feel certain hobbies are ok in certain areas. For example, hunting, guns, football, and cars are fine for flyover states

How does a terminology that many normal-fags use make me Reddit. Or are you that insecure that you have to scream a buzzword whenever you think it relates to your boogeyman

Explain to me your thought process here

Cool. Got anything recorded? Can you recommend some good music featuring bagpipes?
I've recently been fascinated by instruments that aren't the standard rock guitar/bass/drums combo or a philharmonic orchestra, but I'm clueless and just hopping from clip to clip on youtube.

About to sleep but I'll answer more questions tomorrow if the thread is still up

> how old when you got started
Got started at about 23 (was NEET 19-21)

>how old now
25 now

>how much does it cost?

about $2000-$2500 for the basic A-License (maybe different in the states, europe, australasia) and depends if you don't fail any stages

> You in a club?
Yes (you have to be a member of the parachuting organisation to get liscensed as a sport jumper) there are lots of clubs, though some are tandem only operations other facilitate sport jumpers

> You guys got your own plane

Usually the club has their own plane depending on the size. some cmaller clubs have a 182 that carries 5 people, others have Cessna Caravans that can carry 14, some have skyvans etc. Not uncommon or big clubs to have 2 or more planes. Skydive Perris in the US that has like 7 or 10 from what I heard

>Considered BASE
I have friends that do want to get into it.
I probably won't.

I am seriously considering getting into wingsuiting in case the X-wing becomes commercially available in the near future.

Otherwise I am having my license converted in September so I can do paragliding and paramotoring.

And no, I don't drown in pussy either.

1. Reading. I have devised a giant reading list over the past year of books that I want to have bought and read by the time I die. They mostly contain non-meme books from /lit/, works from link related (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Books_of_the_Western_World), and subject matter that interests me personally. I'll post the full list if anyone is interested enough. I try to read ~300 pages a week.

2. Shooting. I got into shooting about 3 years ago and really fell in love with it. I don't have enough disposal income at the present to dump into it, so I only go shooting about every other month. After seeing that 3 gun video Keanu did in preparation for John Wick I would really like to get into that one day.

3. Mountain Climbing. I want to scale the 7 summits by the time I'm 35. So far I've climbed Fuji in Japan, Olympus in Greece, and Kosciusko in Australia, so 6 more to go. There is literally no better feeling then when you reach the top of a fucking mountain. I'm sure when I'm at the end of the list and all that's left is Vinson in Antarctica and Everest I'll be ready to climb them, but it's literally gonna cost 100k to climb both and there's no guarantee you will get to the top so that's pretty intimidating. This also gives me the opportunity to travel the world. FYI for all you weebs, Japan isn't that great. The japs are fucking weird and 99% of the females are awful looking.

4. I've been trying to learn / teach myself Latin, but it's not going very well.

I would like to learn violin and piano one day and maybe get into a martial art or 2, but I just don't have the time.

Where I am from, club cost is just part of your membership to the parchuting body (200 a year iirc) your "club" is just were you nominate when your membership is renewed.

It isnt uncommon for other jumpers to go to other clubs either because of proximity or courses offered etc.

Well I did say most are from /lit/...

That being said I'm assuming the ones you have the most problem with are the modernist novels?
>>
>>40506396
Nah, the greeks are the most memest of meme books
>>
>>40506425
How so?
>>
>>40506464
In my opinion, all the tryhards and those who want to feel like they're part of /lit/ force themselves to choke down the greeks whether or not they enjoy it. Which to me seems counter to the whole premise of reading.

But I'm no authority, I'm a pleb who reads mostly historical and fantasy.

Also thanks to Stranger Things -> HarmonQuest -> Critical Role I've absolutely geeked out hard on D&D in the past few months and I'd like to try that out.

If you get a bit tired of the effete drudgery of some of those books try 'The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared' by Jonas Jonasson. It's Forest Gump-esque and very charming.

Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad is also an enjoyable and light read if you want something a bit more classic.

>PROPERLY

I used to be stuck here. Once you gather enough knowledge by googling data structures and optimization patterns over and over, you start mentally keeping track of all the tradeoffs.
Realize that programming is all about tradeoffs. Only you can decide what tradeoffs are appropriate for your particular application. Every programmer has a different set of priorities and preferences.

Once I turn 21 in a few months I intend to take up bar tending and develop a talent for making drinks. I'm also learning guitar and have dabbled in piano. I also might get into writing, as I have a lot of ideas in my head, and putting them on paper would be relatively therapeutic. After I become talented in these areas, who knows what I'll do next.
