Albeit to be honest I barely see someone (including PTs) using proper spotting. There are specific rules according to weight (one spotter behind vs two spotters on the side) detailing how BOTH their hands should be placed during the WHOLE movement. Sadly these rules are almost never observed.
A single spotter can save a life for 120 kg max, two spotters can save a life for up to 350 kg
They won't prevent injuries completely but they'll prevent that the weight smashes the head or the rib cage
