Working out depletes glycogen (stored sugar) from muscles and liver. Recovery can be improved by moderate carb intake. Chocolate milk is actually a decent recovery drink bc if it's macros and vitamins.

I do IIFYM at 4100 kcal / day and still have a sixpack (not a manlet). Minimizing sugar seems to keep me lean more than worrying about macros.
I have a friend that eats < 3000 kcal (he's a 5'9 manlet) and is less lean than me due to the alcohol he drinks and sugary shit he eats
