What is fatty general? A thread for fat members of /fit/ who want to start eating healthy and lose weight.

Here we ask others for advice and give moral support to one another. We all know how hard it first is and we all have to get though it to better ourselves.
At the end of the day this is a support general whose goal is to help and motivate the chubby channers who need it.

Faq:
Q: How much calories should I eat?
A: Calculate your tdee https://tdeecalculator.net/ and eat -500kcal or up to -25% of the result.

Q: I don't need that much calories can i cut more?
A: Yes, however failure rate is much higher if you do.

Q: I haven't lost weight this week, should i cut more?
A: You either didn't eat properly (consider weighing everything you eat) or you are close to a healthy weight and weight loss will naturally slow down and fluctuate.

Q: Is keto a good idea?
A: If you have absolutely no self-control keto is a good start to lose weight, however you won't learn how to eat normal meals with keto and the chance of regaining weight if you stop with keto is high.

Weigh in at 89kg at 6'3" about 20-25% bf.

Slowly getting there, come down from 100kg (higher end was 115 but not counting that as I wasn't actively trying to cut). Lifts are starting to stall and feel tired a lot. I keep diet in check most of the week but lose it every Sunday with DnD. Should I prep meals for Sunday and only eat those? Also, trying to cut my Pepsi max and whisky habit (at least 2 of each most days).

Interim goal is an inch off the waist to fit into my new suit by march 25th. Main goal is <80kg (or 10%bf/abs for the first time in my life) by around June/July.

"Just" 23-27kg to go, still look like shit and men are still disgusted by me.

Even if I have an ugly face, if I'm 55-60kg, some guy must find me relatively attractive, r-right? I'm really demotivated.
Also, anybody else here can't really "believe" their progress? I went down two pant sizes (one brand, same cut) but sometimes I think "oh they've made the fabric stretchier". I can't see my body getting smaller so wearing smaller clothing feels weird.

I get hard cravings for hamburgers, greasy food, and the like. I do my own grocery shopping and know how to cook a meal but its almost like an addiction that I just keep going back too. It also doesn't help that I work overnights and get that same feeling around midnight with only fast food places opened.

Very relatable. Thats the hardest part of weight loss to be honest. Heres the thing though you have two choices:

1. Give up and be fat and unhappy for the rest of your life
2. Keep going and be fat for awhile but you're constantly shrinking, constantly improving.

You're gonna be fat for awhile regardless, just choose to eventually be healthy and then work for it.

Hello! How have you been, fatbros?

Today it was a good day, I was having little caloric value in the food I was eating, I was drinking enough water, etc...

But then, I went out with some colleagues to eat and we got BBQ chicken wings (I ate 6).
I'm at the moment at 660 calories more than I should have eaten today...

In some time (in about 2 hours) I will go and make some exercises, and will only consume for dinner a cup of tea, so hopefully I will even out the calories I shouldn't have eaten doing that...

I've been dieting+exercising for about 3 weeks now and haven't noticed any weight loss.

I'm doing SS, no GOMAD, and C25K.

TDEE calculator puts me at 2600, and I've been eating ~1600. I'm tracking meticulously and I'm not seeing any difference in weight. I am seeing a huge difference in strength and endurance though, so I'm not giving up. It's just kind of disheartening to not see any weight difference.
>>
>>40462042
I would go up a little to like 2500-2700 just so you don't end up giving up because youre too hungry

Hard to tell since calculators aren't reliable when you're fat.
Track your progress over a month, you generally don't want to lose more than 1kg a week.

lost 40 pounds in the last several months. markers are down to normal non-elevated levels in my blood work, blood pressure is down, I'm almost down into overweight BMI instead of obese, people at work noticed and said I'm looking better, and /fit/'s fat hate threads actually really helped motivate me.
>>
>>40462236
I'm just eating a lot of chicken breast + rice and home made salad (just romaine lettuce, spinach, onion, and tomato) with no dressing.

Maybe it's because I tried the sip meme recently, and my body fucking hates energy drinks.
>>
>>40459510
You can stop. Every day, every meal is a new opportunity. Every good choice is one less bad one. Just make some baby steps at first, that's ok. Just start making one better food choice per day.
>>
>>40462249
>you generally don't want to lose more than 1kg a week

Idk man, a lot of the weight I have lost, which is 40kg at this point, and I am currently at 78 were lost in short bursts of very low calorie consumption.

I lost a lot over the summer where I didn't have school to attend to so I could basically focus all of my energy not eating, it worked very well and I lot a lot of weight during that time.

Now of course that is not feasible in the long run, but if you have a the ability a hard cut, especially at the start of your dieting was at least very useful in my own anecdotal experience.
>>
>>40462290
Nice work man!!! I can't weight to get to the overweight BMI instead of obese lol
>>
I think I'm only eating like 1300-sh calories a day lol but I feel stuffed.

Thank you based cruciferous veggies and shit. I just ate three whole bowls of the shit I made for dinner and according to myfitnesspal it was like 350 calories. Other thousand or so calories for the day were from very filling oatmeal this morning, then snacking on almond butter cause it tastes good. Should probably try to avoid that though, at like 4 tablespoons and made my stomach kinda hurt.
>>
>>40462297
Cut the energy drink and if the problem still persists then it might be something you're eating. Also IMHO just drink water its not worth it.

Oh yeah guess I should have a point to this post.

Yeah, just plain low fat yogurt with berries is great.

And in summer or generally when you are craving ice cream take frozen berries, some artificial sweetener and yogurt and put it in a mixer.
>>
>>40462431
I'm lifting and doing C25K, and I'm also measuring to make sure I'm not getting too much.
>>
>>40460848
Depends. I eat 1200 calories and low carb. I can eat 1/2c of unsweetened Greek yogurt and 1/4c berries but nothing sweetened with sugar and I can't eat more berries than that. Other snacks are often more filling for the same numbers of calories/carbs. Depends on your plan.
Yogurt with sugar isn't a very healthy food at all.
>>
>>40462364

Only ever drink water, nothing else, soda is bottled diabetes avoid it like the plague.

Make an actual fitness plan, lifting needs to be a staple and put some cardio in it, for example I jog 3.5km every night.

Record your progress, don't go overboard though my dude. Take photos of your progress too, they will help with motivation. I also highly recommend checking out other peoples progress images, and there are some really good You Tubers out there too, I personally watch NavaTheBeast & OmarIsuf.

Also, don't cut down your portion sizes like crazy yet, slowly work into it, otherwise, if you run in cocked and ready to rock you will feel like a bottomless pit and eat like starved dog.

Godspeed Anon, start today and never give up.
>>
>>40463127
How long did that take? I'm at pretty much the same height, started at 200lb half a year ago, down to 175 now. But I didnt start cutting calories until January as I just did strength training.

>before
>can't even squat my own weight or do a single chin up
>now
>235 5x5 squats and can do multiple chin ups and pullups

I love my arms, muscles actually showing when I flex them and I casually do negatives and chin ups since my squat rack is in my living room whenever I walk around. I dont expect to increase my weight liftingwhile cutting, aiming for 150lb.
>>
>>40463063
If by changing diet, you mean just eat healthier without cutting calories, no. It would be nice but the reality is that you need to eat at a calorie deficit. The good news is that it doesn't have to be a huge one. Aim to lose 1-2 pounds per week.

I do a cardio warmup, my weight circuit, then swim laps 3x/week alternating with cardio + Pilates 3 other days per week, resting one day per week.
>>
>>40463372

It has taken me around 7 months, but I only started seriously exercising around November last year, got some money for weights and stuff.

Damn dude that is some hectic progress, I went from 5 push ups to 40, puffing after 500m now doing 3.5km (roughly 2.2 miles) so I have made some half decent progress.

What website/app/program is this my dude?

Does being sore after working out mean I'm making progress?
>>
>>40463608
Yes, your muscles are meant to be sore or tired. After working out you should have a rest day if it's sore/tired though.

No worries mate, be sure to test your starting performance, I'd suggest you record how many push ups you can do, how long you can plank, how far you can jog and all that good stuff as soon as possible, that way you can look back and see how much you have improved in the future.

Keep us posted with progress my dude.

Eating less... if you are the 'oops, I ate wings' guy? Isn't that a cheat barely 2 days in? I'm all for progress reporting but if you are going to be inspiring others shouldn't you be getting your own program more solid first?

I cut it all off because I find it disgusting to bite into and it's easier to see and cut on raw chicken than cooked. I use sharp shears and it's quick. I roast a big pack of skinless breasts once a week or so for my fiancé and I and then use the cooked pieces for lots of dishes.

Feelin good lads. Down 15 lbs so far, had a job interview today that went pretty well, and i'm just under my calorie limit.

So I've heard that squats are basically the dream exercise. Would it be worth it to get a rack with some barbells and weights?
>>
>>40464217
yes. You'll be able to do a lot more than squats with a rack. if you get on of the tower racks (best for working out alone but more expensive) you should get a bench and you'll be able to do almost every exercise that you can do with a bb

That's a pretty good price i think. Just be careful on your first time lifting, you should start with the bar and add more if you feel you can do it. I strained my delts putting barely any weight on before. the barbells weight 45 lbs

I'm just looking for some tips!

I'm crippled (left side was paralyzed when I was three, caused a lot of body development issues and my left leg is a full inch shorter than my right)

I had major surgery and was immobile for an entire year because of it (and because I broke my leg immediately after recovering) and went from 200 to 250 during that time.

After three years I've finally decided to get back to being under 200 pounds.

I've cut soda out of my diet and I don't plan on eating fast food for at least a month and a half (going on vacation in April so I'll probably be eating more than I am now and some fast food, I'll try to keep it to the minimum atm).

My diet is:
Breakfast: Serving of cheerios
Lunch: Either Chunky Soup or a can of chicken
Dinner: Literally just a serving or two of whatever I have
Snacks: A cup or so of mixed vegetables between meals (usually one a day between either breakfast -> lunch or lunch -> dinner)
Drink: 400 - 500 oz of water a day and a pot of homebrewed green tea.

Exercise routine: Like I said, I'm a cripple so I can't walk very far without being in pain and my arms are pretty weak because of it too.

No matter what intensity I tire after five minutes, so I usually do the highest intensity on my elliptical (which I can do for a bit over five minutes).

What do you think, /fit/? I'd like to mention that I did this exact same thing five years ago but without vegetables and without the green tea and I lost 40 pounds.
>>
>go to my last class of the night
>two people randomly come in and bring free donuts

>>
Would an apple and a peanut butter and banana sandwich on wheat bread be a good lunch, or do I need to go fitter?
>>
>>40464665
depends on what else you eat throughout the day

2 slices of wheat bread 140-160 calories

apple 90-120 calories

peanut butter 1tsp 95 calories
90-120 calories

500 calorie lunch whatever so long as your other meals make up for how much calories you should or shouldn't be consuming

Started going to gym not too long ago, trying to lose fat. Few questions:
People say it's bad to do cardio after lifting. True? Should I just lift and not do cardio?
What is low intensity cardio? 7% incline 3.5mhp counts as low intensity for 25-30 min? Is that type of cardio best for weight loss after workout?
>>
>>40465797
the point of cardio is to get your heartrate up and keep it there for a while. Your target heartrate depends on depends on your age and how fit you are. So nobody can really tell if your cardio is effective or not by just posting your stats.

If you do cardio before or after lifting is really just preference.
>>
>>40465797
>>40465894
Cardio is best afterward, both for safety reasons and for recovery. If you really want to do it beforehand, keep it low-intensity strictly to warm up for lifting. You can injure yourself if you blow all your energy on the fucking elliptical and try to do squats afterward.

>What is low intensity cardio?
The intensity can be measured by your heartrate, which is dependent on age and how much a fatty you are. If you're 500 pounds, a brisk walk can be medium-intensity. At 250 pounds, you won't even break a sweat.
>>
>>40466166
>>40465894
I'm 22, 6 feet and 219 pounds. At 7% and 3.5mhp my heart rate gets higher but I just started doing cardio so I don't really know if it's getting high enough. Is there a way to tell during exercise without buying extra equipment?
>>
>>40465186
Had just a short glance at a few of the many restaurants, cafes, taverns etc at Disney World (including some newly opened and limited time places) and discovered A) there are a lot cooler theme items to eat than the ones you mentioned and B) many of them had healthy options for several diets, Keto, low carb, low calorie, low fat etc. it's possible to do Disney World and stay on a basically good diet, still indulging in a few treats.
But if you want to justify eating shitty food because 'muh vacation' then sure, go ahead. Most people are excited about the experience, not looking for souvenirs to eat.
All those choices and 'wahh Mickey pretzel' really, really?!?
>>
>>40466200
most of the machines will have metal handles that you grip for a few seconds, then they'll display your Heart Beats per Minute. Most cardio machines in your gym should have it.

I'm going to be under 300 in a week or so, I haven't really been excited since I started changing my diet until now, just been afraid I've been going to blow it. I don't know how long it's been since I've been in the 200s. I still have so much more to go, but getting under 300 would mean I've turned back the past 3 shitty years of my life, with 5 more shitty years of damage left to reverse.

hi guise, i've been chubby my entire childhood, reached puberty, started taking it seriously, been a rugby player since 5, around 15 begin gym, feels good man, top of my performance at around 18, training 4 days a week at my rugby club, 4 days of gym, those gains, not su much aesthetics but performace (rugby actually requires a lot of endurance, 90 minutes running, not like hand egg), 182 cm 110 kg, not ripped but muscular. Began university, MFW it's rugby or studies, also i was already tired, stop doing everithing, just going to gym 3 times a week in neet mode. gain 30 kg the first year, al gains gone, became a blob. 6 years pass, became engineer, start crossfit almost a year now, eating healthy, currently 125 kg, feels good. A long way to go, but i found out that it's easier to get in shape if you were once in shape, deep in your soul there's the habit of exercising and knowing what it feels like to be sore and so on. Should i aim for around 110 kg? i am a big guy, with a big frame and also was clinically heathy at that weight but almost 10 years ago. For my heaight i should be around 80 kg but i'd look auschwitz at that weight

Air and a little water. That sandwich doesn't sound like it fits a good diet, too high carb for a low carb plan, too high fat for a low fat plan, too calorie dense for a 1200-1500 calorie per day plan. How does it fit?

I'm sorting out a cutting diet I can stick to so I'm wanting to try a few fasts and very low calorie days (500) to see if I can get on with a low carb 5:2 IF plan or a OMAD plan or if several meals on steady 1200/day plan will work best.

I'm not prone to binging so OMAD actually sounds hard. But I'm not a snacker/grazer so the 6 small meals per day thing seems excessive.

General question for all: What diet plan do you use?

realistically how much weight could someone who is 6'3" and just under 200lbs lose in 25 days. I generally don't eat unless it is a bowl of cereal for breakfast and I eat lunch at work which is a pure zero rockstar, small deli sandwich and a small bag of chips. Dinner varies but I tend to eat just a single serving unless I had a day off which I usually skip lunch. Last night I decided to start doing a rock lee style workout where I would do sit ups/ push ups based on what stage I got in SFV challenge mode and do one sit up / push up for each stage I got to, suffice it to say I have gotten to where I can do 12 consecutive pushups and barely anything considered to be a sit up because my gut is kind of in the way (skinny fat). I was also drunk and just getting off having a cold so I am factoring that in as well but I have always sucked at sit ups. One of the things I am going to start doing is running more, don't give a fuck if it is in the rain because I am sick and tired of having my stomach/ hips hurt if I try and put on shoes standing up or dry my legs off after a shower. Also this is my first post on /fit/ so I hope that it isn't too bad.

I'd say 10 pounds tops realistically.

Drastically if you stopped eating for 25 days you could lose 40 pounds at the risk of nutrition deficiency. It's all about calories in and calories out. 10% of weight loss is exercise.
>>
>>40460081
Add cardio but probably low-impact to spare your joints stress until you lose more. As high intensity as you can sustain and every day is fine, you don't need rest days from cardio unless you want them. But diet will do the most for you always.

I've been failing a lot but the thing is I've been using fasting so I keep losing weight. I'm stepping in the gym next week to lift weights, I'm just doing cardio to get the courage to even go and lift weights...

But yeah I fast and I eat only on a ~2h window from ~8pm to 10pm, and if I run I only eat like a protein shake, come back and make a huge fucking diner, I'll do mostly the same when I lift.

From the info I gathered there's no huge benefits and I don't believe too much in diet bullshit, but the thing is, it makes me work on my discipline and I can only fuck up so much. I cannot physically overeat if I eat on a 2 hour span because I don't have a huge stomach, I just eat shit and constantly.

Anyone ever fasted here?
>>

I was thinking it would be around there but wasn't sure if there was some sort of diet or workout routine that would focus on getting my gut down a little bit more.
>>40468725
I used to be like around 150-170lbs a few years ago, my metabolisum has slowed down and I had been eating more snack foods and since I was out of High School I don't have PE anymore so the most exercise I get is riding my bike to and from work / college. It isn't really the weight that I am concerned about mainly just that my gut and thighs are kind of big and I want to fix it as much as I can with the time I have left.
>>
>>40468215
>Hell, say you will throw in one cheat snack a day or something if you are woried.
Yeah, this makes sense. Yesterday I was upset that my Dad brought pizza home for dinner but then after putting it into my food calculator I was still far from the amount of calories I was recommended to lose weight. So one bad snack a day won't do much harm.

It's empty calories and lots of carbs and people tend to cheat when they drink so...maybe?
Depends how much you plan to drink and what your calorie allowance is for weight loss. If you can go HAM on your dieting, only eat healthy food and arent trying to do low carb, maybe a few a week will be ok? Or just go on the wagon until you are at or close to your weight goal, then add it back.

My weight is slightly above normal for my height currently.

I was discussing types of eating plans.
5:2 Intermittent fasting is eating 500-600 calories 2 days of the week and a regular healthy diet the other 5 days. Not 500 calories per day, every day.

A 1200 calorie daily diet is within acceptable range for someone my height and frame.
Nowhere did I imply or say anything else, please get your reading straight.
I also was discussing my own plan options, not advising anyone else. Though I don't think anyone here is in any immediate danger of anorexia regardless. Also you are not the guardian of the fatty thread so mind your business.

This might be the wrong place to post, sorry if that is the case. I have seen what she eats and it is not a lot or is it high in carbs and the likes, but i am still going to get her started on a food journal so she can see how much she takes in a day. I wanted to know if anyone had any good ideas on a program that she could do. I already have her drinking a lot of water, and from what i searched on the internet a lot of what they say is stuff she doesnt have acess to. She only has dumbells and barbells so im not sure.

There have been many studies on it for decades and people still squabble about it. Some people report bad effects, some drink gallons with no ill effect.
Common middle-of-the-road opinion on it is 'fine sometimes if it doesn't bother you but not every day'.
>>
>>40469621
Well, I don't have much info but giving you hopes that it helps.

It was basically just to spark a discussion. I'm still uncertain how to arrange my schedule with fasting, but as of right now eating at 8pm means I don't feel sleepy during the day due to digesting and I can go to the gym late. Pretty much perfect for me.

I never realized how much digesting makes you sleepy now that I don't eat all day.

Hi there guys. Posting for the first time ever, please excuse my total ignorance...I'm only just starting out here and still trying to learn. (This General seems great though, you guys are all helpful bros with a dose of realism without being assholes)

So here's my confusion.
Obviously, I will lose weight eating at a caloric deficit. But my question is how much of a difference it makes to my body shape/composition depending on what those calories actually ARE.

Example. I have 100 calories worth of cake or 200 calories worth of whole wheat brown bread. Eating the cake is less calories, but clearly the bread is the "healthier" choice between the two.

If I eat below my TDEE/BMR no matter what, how important are the foods themselves? If I eat at a deficit But all my calories come from fast food or snack items or cookies or whatever, will I still lose a normal amount of fat, have a flat stomach, etc? Or will sugary junk foods leave me pudgy and in skinnyfat mode - technically normal/underweight but still soft and flabby everywhere (pudgy stomach, flabby butt, etc) ?

Obviously I'm using hyperbole as an example and don't GENUINELY intend to eat this way, but I just needed the easiest example to ask you guys.

tl;dr - What difference will eating ~1500 caps worth of sugary junk food vs eating ~1500-2000 caps of healthy real foods do to my body when it comes to shape, fat distribution, body composition, etc?

Thanks so much guys.
>>

A quart a day might be a little much. Maybe try one sweetened with stevia? Or cut it with unsweetened tea for a less-sweet tea?
Some people get migraines and have other symptoms from aspartame-sweetened drinks. Others are fine.

>If I eat below my TDEE/BMR no matter what, how important are the foods themselves?
Calories in are all that matters for real size. You could get fat if you somehow ate 4000 calories of salad a day.
The big thing is eating 1500calories of junk will leave you hungrier than a proper diet, so you're more likely to fuck up. Not to mention the lack of good vitamins, fibre, protein etc. Protein especially is important for muscle if you're doing any kind of strength training.

Not a day, that mark was just my absolute most at one sitting at any time. I usually go through about a gallon a week, give or take.

I'm only concerned about it stopping weight loss, so as long as it won't do that I'm not really concerned with other effects as I've never noticed any.
>>
>>40469840
>But my question is how much of a difference it makes to my body shape/composition depending on what those calories actually ARE.
If you eat no protein, you'll lose muscle and gain fat.
If you get enough protein, but low carbs, your performance will be low in training.
If you get enough protein and enough carbs, but not fat, you'll get hormone issues.
If you get enough protein and carbs and fat, but no minerals and vitamins and shit, you'll get sick often.
You'll also feel shit if you eat shit foods, and you'll feel better if you eat whole/non-processed foods.

Don't use a TDEE calculator, adjust your intake based on what you currently take in and go from there.
>>
>>40469876
Thanks breh
>>
>>40469840
Junk food is less filling and you have little to no control over nutrients, vitamins and fibers in your diet

Also a calorie deficit is good and all but there's a reason people exercise as well, to maintain or promote muscle growth as it's your muscles which are burning those calories daily. Your body if given a shitty diet and time but low in calories can decide to just lower your metabolism by killing off muscle if you aren't using it. So it's important to exercise and get a good diet of protein carbs and fats. Less you simply turn into a small fat versus a lean string bean of a human.

Some guidelines:

Eating a calorie surplus of no-matter-what will translate to gaining weight.

Eating a calorie deficit of no-matter-what will translate to losing weight.

Clean eating is always better than dirty eating.

Now, if you want a discussion of what's better to eat: more protein vs. more fat vs. more carbs equals to asking for memetic advice. Personally, I just stick to avoiding breads and pastas, since I prefer to get my carbs from whole foods. Not having enough carbs/protein/fat will make you feel miserable for a plethora of reasons, so don't fall for any meme-diets that call for not consuming any of these three.

The shape is defined by exercise and genetic predisposition, not diet.
>>
>>40469883
That seems fine to me. Your calorie intake matters the most in weight loss.
>>
>>40469840
If you lose weight eating more junk, you'll likely end up skinnyfat. People who eat more wholesome foods and also exercise will have more muscle less fat so end up looking less flabby.
But if you don't eat under your calorie needs you'll stay fat so if you cheat with unhealthy foods at first but stay under, it might get you on the path to losing and you can just improve your diet gradually as you go along.

>>40469687

Anyone know a public place in America with a public access scale? I've been weighing on one at home, and it tells me 240 every time, even after dieting for 3 weeks. Then I go weigh myself at school on the scale they have next to their gym, and it tells me 204.

I'm 5'11, so this is a pretty huge difference.
