The high level ones ala SBDs do supposedly add more weight. But at ~$90 a pair I don't care to find out.

They don't, they're just super duper comfy. You can get a little more "bounce" but it won't be enough to actually do anything.

They hold your patella in place. You don't want to damage your knees, they're not like your muscles in that you can just rest for a couple weeks. Even after surgery they're not the same
