Facebook is garbage, but it is almost a cultural norm to have an account. To be fair, the actual utility is just whatever you happen to make of it, and facebook isn't going to cure autism. It is just as terrible as ever for meeting new people.

There is also the professional aspect of having social media. I have had two employers actually check for social media accounts and outright acknowledge doing so and likely others who simply nosed around. I have two accounts, with one having my actual name and professionally safe content. The other is for personal use, with a different name.

It is fine for talking to people that regularly use facebook and there is a standalone app for messaging. Actually knowing girls probably helps.
