Cardio is designed to increase your heartrate above 150 which forces you to use more energy quickly which results in the body having to use reserves (fat) to provide said energy.

Resistance training is slower to burn fat but converts it into muscle however you have to force adaptation through pushing your bodies limits for it to tear and grow which uses the energy stored in your body.

Basically you should be doing both for general health and overall fantastic body, if you want to do a poor impression of a gorilla do pure strength training and steroids.

Constantly changing the angle that you're joints move at will cause excessive wear on them. If you're really concerned, do more machine exercises. The machines keep your joints at the same angle every time, actually helping your joints.
