I started lifting after many years again in January with the goal of rapid weight gain. I accomplished that successfully, with very good muscle growth underneath fat growth. But I started being too worried about further fat growth to continue it. At first, I continued to exercise with reduced calories. This simply reversed my muscle gains. It did burn fat though.
## UPDATE
Here's the latest update from my struggles with improving my body. Sadly, this time it's mostly bad news. I'm coming here as a loser.
I haven't lifted for two weeks. I have been sitting before computer all day. I neglected eating, with like one huge meal per day on some days, and sometimes NO meal at all. Oddly enough, it caused very LITTLE weight loss... and prevented further fat gain! (Magically defying my Basal Metabolic Rate.)
So how exactly has my body composition changed by becoming a massive potato coach again? SAME AS IF I HAD BEEN TRAINING ON RESTRICTED CALORIES. The ratio of fat loss to muscle loss was roughly the same.
## DETAILS
2017-01-26 → 2017-02-05 (10 days living as a potato coach)
Total weight: 97.3 kg → 96.9 kg (-1.8 kg)
Muscle: 38.4 kg → 38 kg (-0.4 kg)
Fat: 23.8 kg → 22.7 kg (-1.1 kg)
Fat percentage: 24.1% → 23.4%
In addition:
* My muscles became deflated.
* My stomach became EVEN FATTER despite fat loss. Like there's no stopping it.
* My age caught up with my mind: I started to feel worn out, old and declining.
* My body became more hairy over 10 days. My skin became worse.
* My figure is worse than in December. (Muscle growth ruined by unfeminine fat gain. I could enjoy fat gain if it was uniform all over the body.)

Is it just me or is back squatting fucking terrible?
I have decent mobility everywhere but my ankles and no ankle mobility exercises seem to help at all, like it feels blocked and band stuff doesn't work and long femur meme but it always feels horrible and I have a habit of arching my back into extension too much.
I wish I could just do front squats but everywhere I read says that front squats only aren't doable because something about not enough load and not stressing most amount of muscles.
Anyone else find it impossible to increase ankle mobility?

I do remember John Broz saying you eventually NEED to get a stronger back squat for your FS to increase, so there might be something to it. Other than that, I've never heard that you can't stick to front squats only.
If you don't plan on competing, I'd suggest you do what you need to in order to get stronger while also working on sorting out your BS technique (paused reps (pauses at different stages of the rep), slow reps, correct bracing, good upper back tightness ++). Which FS can help you with.

I don't really know what you mean when you say the bar pushes into your wrists... as for staying upright... I always do pic related beforehand. My first warm up I do the bar then 40kg with the bar on my shoulders but my arms pointing straight out. Whilst you should try and keep an upright back as you go heavy it won't be as straight as when you are warming up, which is fine, provided you don't feel like it's rolling off your shoulders.
