Beaming in from the planet BLOG today is all about the French phenomenon that is ‘The Bogdanoff Brothers.’ Throughout the 70s and 80s brothers Igor and Grichka were the stars of their own TV show. Born in France to a Russian father and an Austrian aristocratic mother the brothers lived in a castle in the mountains and by the age of 14 had finished schooling, were fluent in eight languages and had moved on to an obsession with flying – at this stage helicopters and gliders. Doctorates and Masters in mathematics and science followed before their first sci-fi book took them to television. Before long the handsome boys were given their own show, Temps X, and this rolled into other shows dedicated to the popularisation of such unpopular subjects as theoretical physics and quantum gravity.

In an almost X-Filean turn the brothers’ private lives have matched the extra-terrestrial worlds their heads inhabited. Both remain single (Igor has six children, largely with a Countess, Grichka none) but their bizarrely altered appearance has led to rumours that they are undergoing some kind of anti-ageing hormone therapy or that they are suffering from a form of gigantism. This is in part as the duo have vehemently denied ever having plastic surgery. A furore over plagiarism and the legitimacy of their published scientific treatises has kept them in the public eye as their increasingly extreme faces lead many to wonder if their greatest work is actually themselves, and the creation of two Pod People, born in some kind of seed capsule, taking over the bodies of two humans.
