Why the fuck is everyone in here on some STEM major? Do your cultures plant the seed in your minds at a young age that it's somehow not pheasible or unprofitable to work with your hands or learn a trade? I'm not shitting on anyone here, but if I asked most of you, you'd probably say you chose the major because of its high pay or job availability. That's not really a basis to love your life, is it? Surely you'd choose a career you actually enjoy over money.

My father always told me to find a job you'd be happy doing for free, and he was a musician. Am I wrong in thinking that?
>>

Yes, that's how murica works, they are extremely materialistic. If someone is a complete idiot but has money, then he is a genius role model. That's why Trump is the president.
>My father always told me to find a job you'd be happy doing for free, and he was a musician. Am I wrong in thinking that?

No, just the minority. Also, that is actually harder, if you make it, good on you! But don't be surprised if you can get a job by that way. Not impossible, just harder.

>>40204618
Senior Comp Sci here. I agree there are a lot of people who code in disgust and only learn the minimum required to pass, I think I actually like what I'm doing. I like coding, figuring out stuff and learning. I took up lifting because I like all the information there is available. I probably read hundreds of bodybuilding.com articles and googled "how to do exercise x" and "what is the nutritional value of food y" literally a thousand times. For me it is like a big competitive puzzle that I always was attracted to. Other areas were just competitive, without the puzzling aspect. I want sometimes dream of creating a new tool, a new framework that many would use and thank me for creating it (maybe even paying for it). I also have aspirations like making tutorials and training people in certain technologies/languages/algorithms you name it. Not because I am especially good at them, but because I enjoy learning and passing on my knowledge in a more concise method, essentially inspiring people AND saving them time and money.
>>

It might be difficult, honestly I only have the CSCS since I took a strength and conditioning class during my undergrad that prepared us for the exam, I'm a physical therapist so I don't really need it but it's nice to say I have it. I guess it depends where you want to work, good luck getting into any major college/pro athletic program tho, nearly all of their coaches and interns are former college athletes who happened to go down S&C path once they realized they're not going pro.

My job is basically evaluating public lands that people want to buy for use, externalities due to use, ease of access, that kind of thing. So I work in an office 2-3 days a week and in the field the rest of the week. I could conceivably go back to school for a year and get a geomatics diploma and become a surveyor if I want to make more money, but I like my current job, it's not boring, not stressful but not simple, it affords me freedoms, I feel like I'm using my education and skills, in general it's a pretty good gig. That being said, many people in my graduating class are unemployed or working Joe jobs. I was fortunate that I was well suited and given the opportunity to get into this job.

Only shit tier town cops don't need the degree. Everything else requires a minimum of a college degree with some of them being at the masters level. The DNR job I got required a masters and you needed to be fit as fuck. 70 pushups (easy mode) was the minimum for that part of the test. Running you had to do 1.5 miles in under 10 minutes to pass. Swimming was the only easy test which you swam 35 yards. If you did it in less than 30 seconds you got the max score.

4chan is where socially awkward speds breed. It's not really surprising a >LMAO HES NOT STEM mindset flourished because they had nothing else in life and most of them are like uh all I do is video games and 4chan what's a computers major?

Not saying all of STEM guys are like that just that it's where the STEM elitism comes from.

Every job you'll ever get is more about connections than how good you are at what you do anyway. Archaeologists DO exist so if you want to major in that you just have to get yourself out there.

Better to major in something you love that you'll have the passion to make connections for than force yourself through STEM classes you hate so you can have a well paying office job that you also hate and then come home and beat your wife because you made mistakes in life.
