That is pretty good size you'll be second row. I love rugby, it's most of what I loved about football+I get to tote the rock. And you'll get a physique like none other.

Rugby is always hard but after a while it becomes basically like lifting, hard but fun, except way more hard and way more fun. The sucky part that I described is the beginning when you don't know how to hit, ruck, or scrum, and simply aren't used to that type of contact.

Try bringing things in a bit from where you are in this pic, you have shortish femurs so going super wide at first is definitely going to fuck you over.

In the long run you should probably introduce sumo, unless it hurts your hips, if only to fight accommodation. Variety helps most people's training. It will be weak at first, like any new movement, but after consistent training for a few months with it you'll know whether or not there's potential.

You should bring your grip in about an inch or two on each side.

Spread your hips open more.

You need more thoracic extension and upright-ness. You're trying to lever things up with your back like a conventional pull. Instead you should spread your hips, raise your upper back, and push straight into the ground.

Maybe I didn't quite understand what you were getting at, but just remember that a super upright torso removes the back more and more from the pull, and squats tend to be much more quad dominant, so adding more stress to the quads by setting up super wide and super upright seems counter-intuitive. Much stronger men than I pull in a way very similar to what you are describing, and I should point out that I'm relatively inexperienced - do what works for you - I just find it doesn't work well for me.

I've been doing five single reps, increasing the weight every week. The goal of Texas Method, as in powerlifting, is to increase the weight, not the reps.

What you might do is a set of 5, keep increasing the weight, and drop down to a triple when you can no longer get 5, in order to keep increasing the weight.

Doing so, when triples start to stall, it's probably time to taper for a week either for a meet or for some max testing, before using those maxes to restart a TM cycle, probably at 70-75% for the 5x5 volume day, and 85-90% (definitely 85%, or less, if you want to do a 5RM instead of 5 singles) for intensity day.
