How does /fit/ feel about heart rate monitors? I'm a recovering fatty (6'2", 199 down from 306), and it would be nice to have when counting cals with cardio, but I've heard their accuracy is shit, and I feel like relying on one would be hazardous to me reaching my goals as efficiently as possible.
They are utter shit to count spent calories because overestimate calorie usage, I only use them to measure my hearth rate.
Also off-topic do you still look fat at 199?, asking because I'm 190 at 6'2 and I still look pretty lanky

Tbh, I've been fat all my life, and I've had people lie to me about it all my life. I'll always see myself as a fatass until I start seeing my abs. Even then I'll probably never shake the mindset.
I think they are shit at Calorie counting but they are good for keeping people more active
People that talk about the Surge being shit are retarded because it's an older model.
I have the Charge 2 and it's okay. It's a smartwatch for the fitness-inclined. Take the calorie expenditure with a grain of salt, don't expect it to be exact. Look at it more as an indication of overall activity level. I mostly got mine for sleep tracking because I have sleep problems to begin with.

sleep tracker is fine, device is shit for exercising though. heart rate monitor is (as expected) shit.
silent alarm is too soft, no GPS without cell phone - which disconnects.
useful as watch and stop watch nothing more. not worth the money.

Surge is actually pretty good. Has GPS built in. Step counter and Flights of stairs counter is pretty accurate. Even let's you change the song from the watch.

Absolutly useless as heart rate monitors.
They are great for sleep tracking, cal counting, running (fenix 3 has built in GPS etc etc) and movement sensors.
4channers saying fitness trackers are terrible at HRM. except for the part they forgot to mention that Research and development along with quality testing happens.
Really, it depends on the brand. A cheapo one won't do you well. Fitbit is a fashion statement. Go with Garmin or Polar.

I feel like they dont work great but they help motivate you. I use to ensure i did 10k a day and it became a sort of everyday thing.
I was 270 at 5'11 now 190 and still going and my fitbit helped for sure.
