They all think that having some of those IN ADDITION to their meals will make them lose weight. Of course, the salads are always covered in full fat dressing and the fruit is usually in a syrup of some sort.

When you're fat, you mostly just propel yourself along while you float. If you're normal or fit, you have to work at keeping yourself up as well as going forwards.

This is an incredible catch 22. Fat people are *usually* embarrassed enough to stay away from the pool, or they'll do something even worse like swimming with their shirt on. If they would really start getting active and swimming a lot, they'd probably be less fat.

Same here. I've been at it for 5 months. The first few weeks were a little tough but I got used to it quickly.

Now it's to the point where I've min-maxed my diet for maximum satiety, and it's getting hard to reach 1800 in one day without feeling like I'm overeating. A good calorie deficit should include filling stuff that makes it so you arent hungry, and makes it a chore to eat. 150g of Washed spinach (no wilting) takes fucking forever to eat and after that its only 40 calories, it helps disassociates food with happiness and at that point you wont want to eat as often.

A lot of them want to do the right thing and lose the weight but theyve just been doing the wrong thing and now are convinced that "diets dont work". How do we make the concept of actually counting calories public knowledge? Teach it in health class in schools?

I've found that the big problem is not telling people the right way to do it, which is pretty easy. "Eat less calories than you use. Here are some tips to keep you comfortable while you do it." That's basically it and it's very simple. Most people have heard this.

The big problem is separating that single message from all the other information out there, the misinformation, the blatant lies, and the technically correct information that isn't as high of a priority as counting calories. With all this noise out there it's hard to create an actual plan.
