whats the purpose of chains when you got more space for plates?
>>
>>40154564
Artificial difficulty.
>>
>>40154569
Aren't chains easier to lift since the weight decreases when the bar goes down?
>>
>>40154577
kind of like rubber bands it makes the bar heavier to lock out
>>
>>40154577
I think it's supposed to improve your lock out.
>>
>>40154577
thats the idea. its for developing strength on the upward motion mostly in the last half. its light off your chest but youre training heavy in that part of the movement
>>
>>40154661
Seems silly to me. You're lifting more in the top portion while you actually cannot lift that weight.
>>
>>40154564
They can force form corrections. If you're not driving your elbows inwards, you're gonna have trouble with more than a rep or two.
>>
>>40154673

There's significant carryover further down the ROM.

In any case, unless you're specifically training for a big bench rather than using the bench to improve other stuff, having the whole movement be generally difficult rather than hard at one bit and piss-easy beyond it is very useful.

Chains/bands are pretty fun desu.

it looks edgy, aka crossfit
