I've been having some back pain in this area for a few months. My dog had knee surgery recently so I've been walking around while holding his back end up with a sling, and I think that's what may have caused it.
I think I've narrowed the muscle down to the lower traps, but possibly the rhomboids. Not completely sure. What are some good stretches to help with this? I found a few already but I could use some recommendations. Also should I lift weights to try and target these muscles? If so what free weight exercises would target them?

M8, I have pain in the exact same aera but I have vertebral compression due to bad posture and a nasty ski fall on the back.
I can relax it a bit when I train my neck. I also do some pullups to release the pressure and do some stretches like >>40142724
More than lumbar pain, this is trully hell on earth

Following. I have the exact same thing.
Also it appears that one side is more developed than the other, or that one side is shorter than the other.

I have this as well. I think it might be due to mixed grip DL but that is my theory.
Doing cleans and OLY stuff really aggrevates it
