Amazing work OP, I started at 265 and am 190 at the moment, same height as well.
I've finally managed to get myself onto a 1200 calorie intake for the past week, a few more weeks and I'll be at my goal of 172-176.
5 Months is bloody insane, I've been losing the weight over 4 years or so; last 20lb or so is definitely the hardest; especially with some other health issues.

I don't think I made much gains at all constantly trying to lose weight while building muscle, but I'm finally going to lose the last bit of weight.

If you're asking about "eat big get big" versus reality, then it's as simple as keeping your bulks moderate at +300 calories/day over maintenance TDEE. NOT eating everything in sight and adding pointless weight to the scale. Bulking shouldn't be an excuse to eat significantly more food than normal...300 calories per day is virtually nothing, talking an extra 100 calories per meal if you eat 3 times a day, or keep the same meals and add a snack somewhere in the mix.

But yes, 5 months. I started at the end of August. My routine has been sporadic, I did SS for 3 months but got bored and switched over to bodyweight. I also run 4x a week.
As for diet I didn't follow anything specific, just tried to keep it under 2k calories per day and over 100g of protein. Avoided carbs, sugars,and just generally ate healthy

Thanks! Yeah, it was just one big cut. However, it was actually fairly enjoyable for me. I never felt hungry or had any cravings. I just kinda sat back and watched the fat melt away! There's not much of a difference here. It's there, but it's small. My advice? You don't eat ANYWHERE near enough. 4 months and you don't even look like you've gained 5 pounds, just lost a little fat and tightened up a little muscle.

You're not fucking eating. Start eating. Start eating a LOT. High in protein. Watch your lifts go higher all of a sudden because your body actually has the fucking nutrients to expend on building muscle.

You've basically wasted the last four fucking months because you're not committing to a bulk. You're so skinny that cutting or eating at maintenance isn't going to do shit for you.

1500 calories is just a normal caloric deficit for relatively normal-bodyweight people. I don't think it's even possible for most men to starve to death on 1500 calories a day no matter how long you do it - you'll just eventually be such a skeleton that 1500 will be maintenance. Your BMR increases and decreases with your bodyweight.

That's why a person who's 600lbs can half a pound of fat a day just by eating a normal 2000 calorie diet, but a 120lb skeleton can survive on 1300 calories every day.

I converted it to metric, since that's what I'm used to and yes, losing 21kg in 5 months is possible.
Even if we round months down to 4 weeks (which they aren't, there's extra days in each month, giving him MORE time to lose weight). Then he lost 1.05kg (2.3lb) per week, which is very doable, even at lower weights. I know because I've done several weeks of this kind of weight-loss myself WHILE I was in a lower weight-range.

Well to be fair, the lighting is extremely unflattering and the lens in the first photo makes me look fuckin weird. The lighting in the second photo is extremely good and I have a ridic pump from a very long workout.

It is hard to tell from the first pic but my bis/chest have always held a decent amount of mass on them.

I dropped 50 pounds in 6 months (195 to 145) and now I am back up to 180 with a few pounds of fat from bulking season that don't show up well in the second photo (good lighting).

I started with a shitty bench and barbell with 100 pounds from walmart. I ran a lot and did SL 5x5 for 6 months while cutting (I know it made no fucking sense, didn't know what I was doing).

I've since spent all my money on gym equipment and have a respectable oly setup and pullup/dip stand. I lift for ~2.5 hours 4 days a week doing RPPLPPR. Leg day is just squats 5x5.

Last couple months I've been doing a lot of pyramid style lifting. I change things up mostly because I get bored.

I'm thinking of switching to a recomp diet, eating at maintenance to slowly lose fat and slowly gain muscle/strength. My goal is oly lift progress more than aesthetics, and I like how oly lifters look. Thoughts? This should work right?

If you're fat, what I'd recommend is bodyweight training and cardio every 2nd day. You can find a good bodyweight routine online, and really get serious about running. Try to run further every day, then once you can run 5k, drop it down to a mile until you can run a mile in 8 minutes, then keep that pace until you can run 3 miles in 24 minutes.
Only when you've hit your goal weight and a low bf% should you start bulking and weight lifting.

At least, that's how I've been doing it

Learned this the hard way.

Tried to do about 1000 calories a day extra and went up 15lbs in 3 weeks (140-165). This was after years of telling myself "it's just my metabolism" and "I don't gain weight". Well, I got depressed after separating from the military and blew up another 30lbs with no lifting and ended up skinnyfat with a pot belly. Depression continued and I fell back into my old habits of not eating, and dropped down to 125lbs.
Now I'm at 145 again and gaining weight slowly while lifting instead of trying to rush my gains.
