finding your true TDEE without much hassle is very simple and here are the steps
>weight yourself
>use any online calculator and calculate your TDEE
>it won't be accurate but don't worry about that
>eat at that calculated TDEE for a minimum of 1 week
>at the start of new week weight yourself again
then use the following formula
your calculated TDEE - ( weight change in lbs / days passed * 3500 )
and you will get your real TDEE. note that if you actually lost weight you have to use negative number in weight change. if that doesn't make sense here are two examples.
say that i calculated my TDEE using some online calculator and it said it's 2600. i weighted myself that day at 150 lbs and then ate at 2600 calories for the week. after 7 days i weighted myself again but this time my weight was 151 lbs. now i have enough data to get a more accurate representation of my TDEE.
using the above formula would give me:
2600 - ( 1 lbs / 7 days * 3500 ) = 2600 - (500) = 2100
so my true TDEE is 2100 and not 2600 like the online calculator said.
but what if you actually lost 1 lbs instead of gaining it in the same amount of time? then we have to make a minor adjustment in the formula which is
your calculated TDEE - ( -weight change in lbs / days passed * 3500) so in our example that would be
2600 - ( -1 lbs / 7 days * 3500 ) = 2600 - (-500) = 3100
