I injured my back and it has been hurting for a few days so I've taken a break from exercise. I have been doing light stretches and movements to try to relieve the pain and restore my range of motion, but the pain seems to come back every morning.
Help! Can anybody suggest stretches or yoga poses that relax or work on the back?

Hows your default posture?
For those of us who do manual therapy for a living, it really helps if you let us know your method of injury. Let us know what you were doing at the time of injury, and how you did it.
You also gotta pinpoint where in the back... Upper by the shoulders, mid by the "hump" of your back, or lower, by your hip crest... It's a really busy place and telling us the area of where it hurts can also help.
For example, doing low back stretches when your iliopsoas group is tight will get you zero results.

the best method is to stop doing things damaging your back like shitty standing/sitting/sleeping posture and bad form in the gym

It's okay. When I get comfy I will scoot down in my chair a bit, but right now I am sitting up with good posture. I am usually very flexible because I do yoga every day.
All the stretches I know hurt too much so I've just been doing tiny tests of my range of motion. Right now just turning my head gives slight pangs of pain but rotating my upper body hurts.

It really hurt one morning when I woke up after a day of not doing much. Maybe I slept poorly... I think it is my Trapezius muscle, because it kind of stretches across that area on my back. It is a bit higher than middle back but when it really hurts it includes my upper back.
