I did that 1200 a day bullshit, lost 35lbs in 3 months and lost a lot of strength-- could barely lift anymore. I upped cals and the weight packed back on in a very unflattering way. Don't try to crash diet on 1200 a day, just do it right and lose the weight slowly-- then when you want to bulk, do it right and do it slowly.

Yo, I learned the hard way by gaining weight back.
No reason to crash diet like that unless you're a high school wrestler trying to make weight. Plain and simple. Tell your wife to start lifting heavy as she possibly can without going to snap city, if she eats at a 100 cal surplus while doing it she can try and recomp her body a bit. It will take awhile but she will look better and feel "toned" (assuming she is skinnyfat)
