I want to get /fit/, but I can't afford a decent weight set and there aren't any gyms near me. I've been looking at resistance bands and they seem promising so far. The load profile is obviously different, but I think I could make up for that in other ways -- and resistance is resistance so I can't see any reason why they wouldn't work.

So are these just a meme or what? Any recommendations on a good setup?
There are good for stretching and mobility,
And can be useful with certain bodyweight excercises.
But weights beat them every time when it comes to getting /fit/

Well, I work at a sports store and we have the biggest profit margins on them, something like 70% markup.
So buy them, I need to have a job
I use bands in my home gym for delt work and chest. I use them as a substitute for cable crossovers, to really get that chest contraction. I use them for rear delt work also.

I've always been strong af from a lifetime of manual labor, and I can bulk very easily -- I just want to become leaner and more flexible and generally more healthy long term. Currently 230lb @ 25% bf, ideally I'd like to keep as much of the muscle I have but get down to 10-15% and become more flexible, so these seem to fit the bill.

Scooby's vid is part of what piqued my interest. I can't see how the rubber band style would work as well for me though. Perhaps the lesson comes when you get hit in the face by thin surgical tubing traveling at 200 mph, but we'll see.

Which type do you use? I was thinking about getting pic related, 100lbs total and seem like a good enough deal for $30.
