If I'm from Maryland can I compete in a nearby state? And if I set a state record while competing in another state, would it be a Maryland record or would it be a record for that state?

Also if I register on my USAPL membership as both Teen and Open, do I automatically compete in both?

Help me out /plg/

I'm a 5ft11/6ft.
I've just recently began to take powerlifting more seriously after 3 years of half squatting and power cleaning for HS football training.
I find that high bar squats feel better even though i have long legs/arms, which means hitting depth is hard (i lift barefoot/with chucks usually)
I wanna get a WL shoes for squats but im not sure whether i should get the 'standard' heel height shoes (3/4 in) like adipowers/romaleos or buy the 'taller' heel height shoes like leistung/risto etc etc.
How can i find out what heel height is the best for me?
I know no one that has used shoes i can try on/experiment with so

If you're serious about powerlifting you're going to want to switch to lowbar, there's less of a depth requirement (doing anything beyond what's needed for the competition doesn't really do anything for you) and you can lift more weight as a result

Shoes don't matter as much for lowbar but you'll probably do fine with adipowers/romaleos, heel height won't be an issue for 90% of people

Recovery is going good, I am benching again, focusing very hard on good form, bar path, elbow position, and controlled descent.

Weirdest thing is shoulder stretches don't cause pain/strange sensation, shoulder warmup exercises don't cause pain/strange sensations, but on my warmup sets on bench i can fell something, not pain, but something. Then once I get up over 80kg warmups the sensation disappears completely. So I'm at a loss as to what's going on. My body hasn't weirded me out this much since puberty.

I've never understood this problem, but I see so many people doing cleans using only their arms and they look so stupid. Best way to fix it is to either go heavy and learn that you have to use your traps and engage your legs OR practice your form with a small amount of weight by picking up the bar and going straight into a shrug. I am prolly not explaining it well tho.

Like you pick up the weight like a sorta dead lift but then shrug and lean back with the bar immediately.

You could also try really heavy pulls - drop the weight before the catch. I doubt you could do pulls using only arms.

When it comes to powerlifting, though, it has gotten pretty interesting. I'm helping a few /plg/ guys prepare for upcoming competitions closely. It's been quite challenging, specially having to deal with so many issues with pain and injuries, but things have been improving and going pretty well now. And technique changes have been major, to the point where they were actually shocked at how much of a difference some things make.
Which makes me happy, seems like I'm doing an okay job so far :')

Light warm ups are one thing, but you can't put genuinely heavy snatches and cleans down gently without great risk to your shoulders, back, and even knees. What you are SUPPOSED to do is let go of the bar, but follow it down with your hands so that you can help it land "square" (both sides at the same time as best you can), and control the rebound.

Though with GOOD bumper plates, there isn't a lot of bounce. Decent cheap plates will bounce a bit. Those black rubber CrossFit plates, I swear, are made out of the same shit they use to make superballs. They bounce so fucking much they almost become a perpetual motion device.

Well, it's a lot more than what the regular light work in TM is. Call it light-volume or whatever if you prefer, idk.
The point is just that people have issues increasing their bench on TM because they do 5x5 on monday and like 2-3 sets at most of light benching on wednesday and that's it for volume.

I really, really like the style of training (never failing a lift except occasionally on skill tests) but i've heard time and time again it's not so great for general strength.

I really like the style but don't plan on competing ever, but this general is the only good place to ask for strength-related advice, plz don't hate me.

Maybe adding a fourth day to fit in more general work? Maybe upping the frequency of accessories so they always get hit 2x per week? Doing more chins, rows, curls, tris, lat raises, maybe even OHP on that fourth day?

This would require a rearrangement of everything except the main lifts, but it should be doable if you know what you're doing.

They both heavily focus on the big 3 (well 4). It's just a different way of progressing and training. Is it really that big of a difference?

You need to read practical programming, or any exercise science book to get even the most rudimentary grasp on this very simple sport.

Texas Method has much higher intensity, lower volume comma and quicker progression. It is programmed for an athlete that can put weight on the bar every week.

Memeko is meant for lifters specifically training for a powerlifting meet. It is fairly low intensity meaning that most lifts are performed under 80% of your 1 rep max. The volume is incredibly high , as are the number of lifts. The programming is only meant to be run for meet preparation, not year round. You only add weight to the bar every month to 3 months. I would not recommend this programming if you have less than 350 Wilks.

i got +15kg deadlift
+10 bench
+10 squat

i'm doing it a second time now, i'll be interesting to see if my maxes were too low the first time or if you really can progress at this rate

majority of SS has progression of 2.5 lbs for upper and 5 lbs progression for lower (only first 2--4 weeks has quicker progression)

this equals 15 lbs a month for bench
this equals 60 lbs a month for squat
this equals 20 lbs a month for deadlift

both the bench and deadlift jumps are definately doable with a single sheiko prep cycle if you're beginner/intermediate

only thing is the squats, even half of that is probably unrealistic monthly progression

but the biggest benefit of sheiko is the technique part, and the psychological "safety" of never having to worry about missing a rep. people doing SS and TM tend to have mediocre form (just something i've noticed on reddit and /fit/ form checks) because of the aggressive progression
