Let's talk beer.

So, like many of you, I started training hard recently. I'm a weak wimp with slim figure.

I just returned from my training and I got this weird sudden urge to drink a glass of beer, which is weird cause I detest and drink only socially.

Is there any healthy benefit to drinking beer or is just eating properly enough. Also, if not bear, what may I drink out of casual beverages (fruit)?
>>
>>40045291
Sandow drank loads of dark beer with his meat stews to pack on muscle. It's full of carbs and calories to fuel growth. Don't get wasted every night but a couple beers every day as a skinny dude can't hurt. The relaxation might lower cortisol levels and help you sleep better too.
>>
Having one drink a day is generally shown as having positive health effects. Certainly won't have any negative impact if you're only having one or two and accounting for the calories.
>>
>>40045387
>full of carbs
There's not that many carbs in it at all. The calories come from the alcohol, which doesn't help shit.

The only alcohol that could be argued as having any health benefits is red wine
>>
>>40045291
Just. Dont. Drink. Beer...

Other beverages. Milk (Low fat or soya), water & shakes.......With milk or water.

Thats it......
>>
> that after gym pint

fucking summer in australia so that shit goes down beautifully
>>
>>40045402

Which positive effects?
>>
Dont know if true but beer has all the essential minerals needed for human growth. Even if it doesnt having a beer or 2 a day aint gonna kill ya. Just be smart about your consumption and you'll be fine
>>
>>40045419
>What is maltose
>>
>>40045568
Fuck I don't know, google it.

http://www.menshealth.com/health/have-a-beer

I doubt if it's all 100% substantiated but it does appear to protect from some forms of dementia. Caffeine is similar.
>>
>>40045590
What about it?
>>
>>40045291
if u want to get drunk and be fit you have only two options

>clear spirits like vodka, gin and rum
>red wine for it antioxidants

beer is just empty calories and loads of estrogen. Good for looking like sumo, but nothing else. Of course, one beer per month with dinner wont kill you, but imho it should be as much limited as possible

of course, beer has it health benefits, it own vitamins and its pretty good for kidneys, but for fitness is a big no no

>>40045387
Sandow was on roids and that covers up most regress alcohol can have on fitness performance
>>
>>40045291
Brewer here

Dont drink it. Its literally extra fat with no benefit.

If you want to drink it because you like it, drink it. But it has zero health benefits.
>>
>>40045597

There's a good reason I'm asking here instead of asking google. As we all know, the world is propagating alcohol for business. It's treated like a godly elite drink while it has many negative effects. But yea... who knows, gut feeling might be productive.
>>
>>40045606
there was no such thing as roids back then you moron
>>
>>40045419
it's like half cals from carbs..
>>
beer is yummy; drink it but don't delude yourself.

also, it's a meme but

M O D E R A T I O N is key!
>>
>>40045655

So, am I better off drinking 1 glass every 2 days after workout or drinking no beer at all?
>>
>>40045622

How does being a brewer even remotely qualify you to talk about the health benefits of beer, as apposed to someone who actually studies the effect of it on the body?
>>
>>40045622
>fat
>>
>>40045628
ah sorry, my mistake, mistook sandow for somebody else

lets just say that with genetics like his and dadstrenght 1500 natural bloodtest you can drink beer
>>
>>40045673
Because its literally my career to know everything about beer including every study done on it you uneducated twat.

And im telling you we literally laugh at anyone who thinks beer has any benefits. We got you idiots to fall for 'light' beer for fat lose we can get you to fall for anything.

The primary thing in beer is alcohol, and it has absolutely no positive effect on the body all broscience/media advertising aside alcohol is not good for you. There is nothing else in beer that you gain in sufficient quantities in order to call it 'healthy' that you dont already get in a normal balanced diet.
>>
>>40045717
>The primary thing in beer is alcohol.
>4.2%

No.
>>
>>40045717
light beer isn't a meme it literally has less calories

still empty calories because alc but there's a difference between drinking 6 keystones and 6 guiness
>>
>>40045746
Are you trying to be fucking daft cunt, what do you think the other major part is?
Fucking water.
>>
You fucking "my body is a temple,' fags spend your entire life tweaking your diet to perfection. Don't be like those turbonerds OP, drink what you want but know moderation.
>>
>>40045764
Guinness is actually relatively low cal and has a pretty strong vit/mineral profile srs
>>
>>40045648
It's less than half. I checked some aussie beers and american beers.

Its generally 40 calories and 3g of carbs per 100ml, which is 12 calories from carbs. Which is 30%
>>
>>40045764
Pfthah. Okay anon. Well done falling for it.
>>
>>40045797
I dont want to sound too straight edge but at least for me a good night of a nice party (and I used drink a lot, 4 litres of beer per party) was week-two back in terms of my fitness progress. Even strenght and endurance suffered enourmously.

Maybe our countries operate on different definitions of moderation, but I personally cant drink alcohol without it affecting my fitness in a negative way. One beer a day/year can make a difference of few kilograms in bodyweight.
>>
>>40045851
Drinking everyday is not moderation.
Binge drinking in general is not moderation.
Who taught you what moderation is?
>>
>>40045851

Few kilograms? Damn man. I hear it affects endurance but it shouldn't strength.

So, I'll repeat about my version of "moderation";
3 ounces of light beer per two days. Eh?
>>
>>40045885

Whoops, 1 ounce. Pardon. I'm not familiar with this measurement unit.
>>
>>40045606
>one beer per month
>>
>>40045885
If you just enjoy drinking beer then throwing back a few glasses on the weekend shouldn't really effect you.

If you just want to get drunk as efficiently as possible for parties or something then drink liquor. This will probably effect your lifts if you do it frequently enough. Although you can easily keep your weight stable by planning ahead for when you're drinking at least.
>>
>40045585
Two beers a day?
>>
>>40045928

I don't really care about parties and I don't get drunk unless I'm meeting a new odd bloke. Which is extra rare.

All I'm confused about is why I, after months of not drinking, got a physical need for a glass of beer following my workout. It was 1 glass and it lay nicely.

Culture. Its western europe here and all the jokes about poles, russians and slavs drinking a lot are true. Alcohol is everywhere. Its expected to drink and people give you really weird looks if you dont.

My gymbro could drink without a much problem, but for me few next workouts were always spent getting back to where I was. So I decided its better to drop alcohol all-together (especially combined with the fact that I have a bit of binge drinking problem and Im a real jerk when drunk, lol).
From my experience, smoking weed is the best drug for sportsmen and I have tried quite a lot substances. (Acid and similiar propably dont have many negative consequences for the body, but you wont use it for socialising and every day partying, wont you?)

>>40045885
1 ounce isnt even a glass of beer, bro.
In my opinion the best you can do is to try for yourself. Enjoying your life is also very important for sports performance (try to break records with depression and cortisol levels in million units). Just remember that every beer is a tradeoff.

As it was already said before, red wine is propably the healthiest alcohol. Getting drunk for the sake of getting drunk should be done with clean spirits. Or stuff like one beer and later vodka if you really like it.

Dont go full autismo and kill your pleasure from life but try to find balance.
Maybe you will discover that you find more pleasure in keeping your body in top condition instead of that one beer from time to time.

>>40045971
Hey, maybe people just get whims from time to time. You had a good time working out and you wanted to put a cherry on the cake with nice, cold beer.
>>
>>40045971
You sound like me. I enjoy drinking beer and do so in social environments. I really like to use it to easily get to know others better. It's so simple to invite someone out for a drink.
I also usually get cravings for beer when I've been working really hard at something, doesn't have to be working out specifically. it's just extremely satisfying to accomplish something, feel like your work has paid off, and then drink a nice cold beer.
Maybe we were socially condition to feel that way about beer or something I don't know. All I know is that it's a good feeling and drinking a bit every so often on the weekends won't do you any harm, but it's not going to benefit you either unless you count social gains.

>Hey, maybe people just get whims from time to time. You had a good time working out and you wanted to put a cherry on the cake with nice, cold beer.
I guess. I mean, I had cold lemonade, water, juice and beer in front of me and despite disliking it I got an urge to... I don't know... reward myself for breaking my limits of willpower. Or was it just a physical need for something that beer contains to balance it.

I usually trust my instincts so I went with it. It's like those urges you get as a little kid to eat specific things that you lack for growth.

>>40046022
Is it possible that this confidence to do whatever(like even socialize) from solo workout disrupted my brain causing it to think that it's a social drinking moment unrelated to training and a time to go on with the habit?

This could be the most retarded thing I have ever read.
>>
how estrogenous is hops anyway?
>>
I don't know if this has been posted already, but beer is the absolute devil if you are trying to gain muscle. When beer is ingested it must be broken down in the liver, as it is toxic to the body. Because it is dangerous to the body, it gains top priority, meaning muscle gain will slow or stop completely.

>Tldr beer kills gains
>>
>>40045663
1 glass every 2 days wont make a difference really against not drinking at all, so if you enjoy drinking beer do it, why not.
>>
>>40045746
KEK.
>>
>>40045717

A brewer just makes beer. You are not obligated to study the health effects to call yourself a brewer. So again, being a brewer doesnt automatically make you qualified to talk about the health effects.
>>
>>40045291
>drinking socially even when you don't like it

It doesn't matter what you do, you're going to fail anyway. Just kys and save time.

This. Binge drank beer for a good month and fot the worst fucken beer belly. Currently trying to lose it and its a bitch.
>>
Beer is fucking terrible for you. Treat like you would desserts. One or two every so often is okay, binging once in a blue moon is alright, but don't make it a regular part of the diet
>>
>>40045623
Are you afraid of the (((MSM))) op? Maybe you should go ask the retards in /pol/ for advice
>>
>>40045419
>There's not that many carbs in it at all
Are you stoned? Many decent beers will have ~25-45grams of carbs per can. If you're drinking lite macros then you can get low carb, but most of them are fairly high carb.

Listen here OP, if you are drink with moderation its perfectly fine to have a beer at the end of the day. That's if you really enjoy it. Now I cannot comprehend how stupid it is if you detest it and even hating it so much you drink it only to appear sociable around other people, and then worrying about loosing gains for drinking it.
>>
>>40049479
Wtf beers are they? Give example and proof or fuck off
>>
>>40049593
Most beers don't give calorie info (at least not in America) because alcohol is not regulated by the FDA. Any beers that DO give their info are usually lite beers which have less carbs and calories anyhow.
>>
>>40049614
So no proof then. Okie dokie.
