Probably because you answer questions and don't leave any place for the conversation to flow.

Example:
Him: hey how's your day going?
You: it's going good, how's yours?
Him:it's good. Sitting at home because I have the day off
You: oh cool :)

That's a hard pause on the conversation. He's going to have to forcefully move along the conversation every time some like that happens. Too many of those and he's going to stop talking to you.
