I've had multiple shoulder dislocations in the past but following surgery, physio and the OK from the doctor, I can now lift. I'm 5'7'' and 60kgs.

I can just about bench and shoulder press the empty bar. I've set myself the goal of 50kg bench and 30kg OHP. I'm doing SS.

Could you help me estimate how long it may take to hit these goals?

30kg OHP is extremely easy and im 5'6 DYEL so that should really be no problem. 50 kg bench is nothing either, it should'nt take more than say two months if you work hard, could take less time if you sleep really well and just give it your best

What, you're recovering from multiple injuries and you want to set yourself deadlines?

Just focus on getting the technique absolutely right and hit each increment while listening your body. Slow is good.

Sounds great. I guess I'll keep these as initial targets and review when I reach them. Out of interest, how long have you been lifting seriously and what are your pb's?

I kinda wanted to hide the reasoning behind my question but... I wanted to gauge how hard this would be so I can decide on a proportionate 'reward' for hitting my target. I really want a nice watch, but if my targets will only take a couple of months, then I can't justify it.

You're right though - I'm not in a rush to hit my goal, I'm just delighted that I can lift a weight above my head.

been doing it about eight months, the bench at my gym is a smith machine so it doesnt really count. OHP is 100 lbs, preacher curl is at 70 lbs, smith machine bench is at 230 lbs, deadlift is pretty shit at 225, only done it several times. Pull ups are better at 7 reps with 25 lbs attached. I did bench 3 x 135 way back in highschool where i weighed like 110. so thats why i say a 50kg bench is nothing to worry about

Don't do ss. Most people find the workouts feel incomplete, they aren't satisfied with the way their body looks after 8-12 months, and the progression hits too many barriers.

Do a Greyskull variation. The /fit/ one will work just fine. You do 2x5 and then on the last set you go for as many reps as possible. If you fail to hit 5, deload 10% and try again. This way you can still hit a pr at a weight you may have done before and it'll help keep you on track. It's fun stuff.
