1. Eat Small, Frequent Meals
2. Eat Your Bodyweight In Grams Of Protein
3. Carbohydrates Are Crucial To Muscle Growth
4. Eat Enough Calories
5. Fat Should Comprise Roughly 30% Of Overall Calories

The positive to a Vegan diet is that the fats consumed are of the healthy kind; mainly Omega-5 from nuts.

The average american diet is an omnivorous diet. It's incredibly nutrient-poor yet calorie dense. It's as valid a representation of meat diets as any of these studies are of vegan diets.

All these "vegans don't get enough" nutrients and more are also lacking in most meat eaters' diets.

That's not what your study says. Both groups performed the same at baseline but creatine supplementation worsened the memory of the omnis.

>after 4 d of consuming the creatine supplement, memory was better in vegetarians rather than in those who consumed meat (F(1, 118) ¼ 5·06; P,0·03). However, in those who were meat-eaters, the consumption of the creatine supplement was associated with poorer memory compared with baseline values

>>40024972

I agree SAD is shit but it is an omnivorous diet and obviously the most popular one in the US. If you want to play the game of "vegans don't get enough _____, says X study on 14 malnourished vegans in 1988" then you have to accept all the data about the shitty diets of malnourished non-vegans.

all of these studies contradict each other and none of them are conclusive the link you just provided states:

"Despite the growing body of data, effects of soy consumption on endogenous plasma hormones have been inconsistent, probably as a result of methodological differences in subject characteristics, study design and length, determination of menstrual cycle parameters, and isoflavone form and dose."

"Thus, soy consumption appears to exert modest hormonal effects in both pre- and postmenopausal women. The effects are generally in the direction of providing health benefits, although they are quite small and of uncertain clinical significance. Further research must be performed to clarify the magnitude and significance of the hormonal effects of soy consumption, and, if effects are seen, to establish whether the responsible components are the isoflavones or some other soy constituent."

>people who eat meat unironically think they are somehow less nutrient deficient than anyone when the only vitamins contained in meat are b vitamins which are easily gotten from a bowl of cereal these days
>>
hey, dietician here.

i'm not gonna go into the pros / cons of a vegan diet because that would take away from my main message which is this:

VEGANS CAN HAVE A COMPLETELY BALANCED DIET IF THEY ARE VERY CONCIOUS ABOUT WHAT THEY EAT, THEY CAN GET ENOUGH MACRO/MICRONUTRIENTS FROM THEIR COMPLETELY VEGAN DIET.

THIS HAS ONE EXCEPTION, THERE IS NO NATURAL SOURCE OF VITAMIN B12 IN NATURE EXCEPT FOR DAIRY AND MEAT SO YA'LL MOTHERFUCKERS BETTER SUPPLEMENT THAT UNLESS YOU WANT PERMANENT DAMAGE TO YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM.

there are completely vegan supplements available where b12 is synthesized with bacteria. if you don't do this, prepare for permanent damage to your body.

and to avoid a common pitfall on this subject:
your body stores vit b12, enough for ~6 months on average. so if you were to start eating vegan and you didn't supplement vit b12, you'll be perfectly fine for an unspecified amount of time. then one day you might start to look a bit ill, feel a bit lightheaded, or will just feel lethargic in general and you might write it off to something else, as all of these symptoms are very common for lots of things. then, you might have a bit of a rough tongue, you might lose some weight and have diarrhea, and again, these are very common symptoms for all kinds of diseases. so then before you or maybe if you contacted a doctor, they can correctly diagnose your problem, your extremities feel a bit tingly or slightly numb. that means your CNS (central nervous system) is now permanently damaged.

also: even though it is possible to get enough polyunsatured fatty acids through some biochemical processes in your body if you eat just the right things, it is much easier and safer to supplement this as well.

in conclusion: whether you buy into all the pseudoscience or not, or whether you think one is scientifically proven to be better than the other doesn't matter to me as long as you supplement B12 (and probably essential fatty acids as well, just to make it easier for yourself)

there are no exceptions on the "there are no natural sources of vit b12 except for dairy and other animal based foodsources" rule.

there are however plenty of pseudoscience bullshit websites that advertise certain foods as being an exception. i've seen some real bullshit on these websites by now, and there are too many to name, so please, please PLEASE just take my word for it. and if you don't, do your own objective research on whatever miracle vegetable you've found.

You'd be surprised. The vegan movement has got a massive opposive force. This thread alone should be a testament to that. I mean it's a thread about veganims, and yet omnivores feel the need to post and argue in it.

Groupmind works both ways, and the anonymous backlash against veganism on the internet makes me wonder why people get so up in arms about it.

There's incredible amounts of pseudoscience surrounding the topic, and whether it's been disproved or not, the arguments will be brought up every time someone mentions not eating whatever.

It just doesn't matter to anyone that's not a vegan, it doesn't affect them at all what other people do.

Now if people would care as much about denouncing islam or whatever, that'd actually be productive.

What I ate today:
High-protein oats with soymilk*: 20g protein
Baked tofu and veggies: about 30g protein
Some nuts as a snack: about 5g protein
Bean-and-seitan** burgers and sweet potatoes + veggies: 40g protein
Protein shake, vegan blend: 35g protein
PB&J on lchf-bread***: 20g protein

Total: 150g protein. I weigh 150lbs. Wasn't even trying hard.

*some pea protein is added to boost protein content and to make it a complete protein
**the incomplete protein of seitan is made complete with the additions of beans
***seeds and nuts added to the bread to make a complete protein

Not even vegan just trying something new for the hell of it. Former fatty (down from 200lbs at most) and this sort of diet helped me loose tons of weight. Still ate some sea-food, though... Dunno if I'll be able to put on muscle on it, might give it a shot but I'll bail if it hurts my gains.
>>
>>40029095

You missed the point of the post. Vegan diets aren't one single thing just like meat diets aren't one single thing. Individual diets are good or bad. If you think otherwise, then you can't discount the shitty American diet as representing meat eaters.

Most of your studies ARE shit and a lot aren't even about vegans.

>my sources are still accurate

Like this one? >>40025008

Or the one about "vegans have less gains" involving 19 untrained men aged 51-69 that happened to see more muscle gain when they ate 90g protein instead of 70g? Or the indirect reasoning like "vegans are deficient in vitamin A because beta-carotene has to be converted first"? It's like you just found whatever you could that was even vaguely related to what you wanted to say, and posted it in a big wall of text so people wouldn't read into it.
>>
>>40029124

That's not how it works
>>
>>40029124
But like I just said, it was made complete by adding other stuff. Seitan on it's own isn't complete, but with beans it is. DId you now read my whole post? Also I forgot to include BCAA which would take care of incompleteness anyway.

No they don't

The one thing they all feature is dark skin and curly hair

Their facial features change a lot including noses

And its not just West Eurasian admixture. Dark skinned somalis and Ethiopians have thin pointy noses.

They had an entire racial theory for this back in the day

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamitic

Its why Ethiopians and Somalis are put as "Caucasian" when the Germans started using that word

I agree. There are some people(not only black people) that may have a nose like this due to surgery, but I know hers isn't (if you go on her Instagram or Twitter and obviously see how she does her makeup) and again, I have met several African people without wideset nostrils. And you calling our noses chimpanzee(ish) really makes me doubt how attractive you actually find black women if you're comparing us to other primates. Of course I know we're apart of the primate family, but I have never seen that used as a compliment. And again, she could contour her nose, she obviously wears makeup and you could see the highlight on the bridge of her nose. Her look isn't impossible. Rare, but not impossible.

>>40029270
>A survey of naturally occurring plant-derived food sources with high Vitamin B12 contents suggested that dried purple laver (nori) is the most suitable Vitamin B12 source presently available for vegetarians. Furthermore, dried purple laver also contains high levels of other nutrients that are lacking in vegetarian diets, such as iron and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Dried purple laver is a natural plant product and it is suitable for most people in various vegetarian groups.

1. It doesn't matter; whether or not the source of b12 is 'natural' or not is irrelevant unless one enjoys commiting logical fallacies or something.
2. There is NO evidence that any natural source of bioavaliable (for humans) b12 exists.
2b). There is no evidence that it doesn't or cannot exist: we just haven't found anything yet. Maybe we'll find something some day. There's like one or two studies on some weird algaes that appear to have boosted b12 in mice. Not that it fucking matters because see 1.
3. Take your damn b12!!!

>>40028627
Seriously, my wife went vegan and refused to take supplements because 'muh natural lifestyle'. She become lethargic, went to the doctor and got a b12 presciption. Meanwhile I tried the same diet when she did it and had perfect results on my blood work because I TOOK MY GODDAMN SUPPLEMENTS.

I'd like to add, and perhaps you can confirm or expand on this, that some people lack the genetic ability to synthesise some polyunsatured fatty acids regardless of what they eat, and that supplements are therefore required there too. Personally I felt much better taking epa, dha and ala sups than eating the right stuff.

pretty much this, even if someone to were to synthesize b12 straight from the gut bacteria of a dead animal and put it in a supplement, that would still be 100 times healther than eating the flesh of the animal and dealing with the terrible effects that has on your body. animal protein is absolute shit for your health

>The results indicate that B12 in raw nori can be changed into harmful inactive B12 analogues by drying, and that dried nori decreases B12 status. Yamada et al. said that although dried nori cannot be used as a B12 source, in small amounts it is not harmful. However, they believe that raw nori is an excellent source of genuine B12. I disagree with their conclusion that raw nori is an excellent source of active B12. While eating raw nori, the subjects' uMMA levels increased 5%. While this was not enough of an increase to be statistically significant, it indicates that the raw nori did not improve B12 status (which would have required MMA levels to drop, rather than increase). This study showed that this batch of raw nori did not have enough inactive B12 versus active B12 analogue to be considerably detrimental, but it did not prove any benefit.

JUST. FUCKING. EAT. MORE. PROTEIN.

Most dishes are designed to be complete proteins. Beans+rice are complete; chickpeas+rice also; hell even seitan has better texture and flavour with some mashed beans in there. Lentils are easier to digest and cook faster if you sprout them first, which also makes them a complete protein. You'd have to go OUT OF YOUR WAY to eat incomplete proteins.

>The vegan diet is shit.
It's not a diet. A diet is what you eat, veganism is about what you don't eat - or rather what sources of nutrients you avoid. It says nothing about what one eats or doesn't at all. You can just drink vodka and eat cholocate and be vegan.

>>40026287
Vegans do sometimes, to a larger degree than omnivores at least, tend to be hippies who believe in pseudo-science and follow shitty dietary advice. Vegans who actually do their research, admit the flaws of their diet and then try to make up for them as far as possible through supplements or whatever else, are rare. Personally, I'm the only vegan I know that supplements with b12, iron, omega 3, certain amino acids (taurine and leucine mostly) AND eats extra protein to make up for the lower bioavaliability. My vegan friends all think I'm silly and taking it too far, despite me being the only one of us with no deficiencies, constant lethargy, or constant colds.
>>
>>40029519
>It's not a diet. A diet is what you eat, veganism is about what you don't eat - or rather what sources of nutrients you avoid. It says nothing about what one eats or doesn't at all. You can just drink vodka and eat cholocate and be vegan.

Iron isn't something you should need to supplement
>>
>>40029519
sounds like you have shitty vegan friends. every vegan i know is knowledgeable about nutrition
>>
>>40029333
as far as my knowledge goes (last time i updated myself on this topic specifically was mid 2016) the synthesizing process can be innefficient with some people, meaning you would have to eat large amounts of sometimes really expensive foodstuffs to get enough essential fatty acids out of it, which can also fuck up the rest of your diet.

so yeah, it is much easier with lots of people to just take the supplements, but i didn't want to go into it too much on my first post because everything nutrition related on /fit/ has to be written in such a way that no idiot can cherrypick from it and i wanted to make the main message of my post about b12.

>>
>>40029546
I understand most people call it a "diet", but it's really not in the normal sense. Just saying that I am "vegan" tells you nothing about what I actually eat or do not eat - all you can know is that I avoid animal sources of whatever I eat. I doesn't tell you whether I avoid sugar, for example, just that I avoid the sort that has been sugar bleached with cow bones.

Furthermore, "vegan" is a whole lifestyle where one does other things as well, like avoids wearing leather. Eating a plant based diet is only a part of what "veganism" is. I understand, again, that people misuse the term, but me using it correctly for once hardly makes me retarded...

>>40029550

Being vegan is arbitrary and stupid. If you want 'ethical' foods you will have to investigate each individual thing you eat. Growing plants and protecting them from wildlife is still killing animals, you know?

I have a flock of chickens back home. They eat whatever they like, roam freely (could leave if they wanted to) and have regularly cleaned shelter from the elements. Vegans legitimately try to convince me that eating their eggs (which would otherwise rot) will kill me and is unethical. Fucking morons.
