Alright, lets try something out here:

Post one piece of advice that you have found most useful in your fitness endeavor, regardless of what that may be.

Try not to re-post, or at very least elaborate if you do.

The ass is for attention. That is all.

TDEE should be re-adjusted every week.

Fasting is good

Working out harder and more does not = faster and better results

Every single person should do some form of basic calisthenics, stretching, and aerobic activity

NEAT is king when it comes to calorie burn

You can burn 31 calories of fat per pound of bodyfat per day.

Masturbation is evil.
>>
If you like making stir fry with sauce mixed with rice or noodles but don't want the calories/carbs of rice or noodles, try using spinach instead! You can use it fresh and crisp, or if you want to be extra full, you can sautee it to decrease it's size (sautéing in a little bit of butter (like 1tsp) really activates the flavour).
>>
>>39977339
I have a couple

Train arms. Compounds aren't always enough

Train abs. Compounds aren't always enough

There is nothing wrong with using a belt if your form is good. Better core activation = more weight lifted = faster development

If something hurts, doesn't feel right, or looks like shit, try stretching before saying you can't do it anymore
>>
>>39977371

There are a ton of movements suitable as main exercises. Don't get hung up on 'having' to do any specific ones because the ideal ones are going to vary from person to person and goal to goal.

Dont ever bulk. Literally never.
Hear me out. Most people here dont even understand bulking or how its properly done. Youre supposed to bulk once youve run out of natty gains, like someone like lotus can and should if he wants to.
HOWEVER
99% of people here are skinny fat and have not been in the gym more than 3 months and ask about bulking advice. It fucking kills me.
If youre a new lifter imo you should focus on getting your weight in check, 12%ish bf, then just focus on lifting properly and eating at a very very slight caloric surplus. As in dont go shoving donuts down your fucking throat.
>>
>>39978387
>Complains that most people don't understand what bulking is

Consistency is key. Better to stick to a brosplit and do it 4 times a week and over years than start SS for 3 month and then drop it and fuck around one time per week in the gym.

Here's some general advice from an older /fit/izen (29)

Fitness:
Big compounds as a base and then iso to build upon. You can't get big without being relatively strong, but just getting strong won't get you big.
Your heart is a muscle and you should do cardio to build it's strength
Stretching seems like a drag but it really is essential. Spend 10-15 minutes before your workout, put on a podcast or audiobook, and just stretch while listening (routine in the sticky).

Diet and Cooking:
You do not need as much protein as the internet says you do. 1 kg per pound body-weight is plenty.
Your ratio of carbs to fats is dependent upon your personal satiety and how you perform in the gym. Get some of each but if you want to go low carb or low fat, just let your natural inclination in your diet take you there. It's all about calories and protein anyway.
Similarly, consuming just boneless skinless chicken breasts because they're high in protein is a futile activity. Brine them and then grill them if you need to eat them, but pretty much any other cut of meat will be more delicious and jucier and more economical to purchase. Instead of grilling a ton of chicken breasts, consider doing a long braise or roast for your protein macros.
Learning to cook vegetables takes skill but is very rewarding.
Consider trying vegeterianism or veganism, or just generally eating less meat. Factory farming is undoubtedly a horrific practice and terrible for the environment. Don't be a cunt about it and people will accept your choices. You can get plenty of protein from tofu and seitan (especially if you make your own).

Women and Dating
The #1 rule to remember is that women are people who have a radically different experience with love and sex than you do. Feminism gets a bad rap because of SJW's on the internet, but if try the cognitive exercise of putting yourself in a woman's perspective, a lot of their complaints are actually pretty reasonable, if unreasonably communicated.
>>
You have to push yourself and go for every rep KNOWING that you can do it (with good form ofc), hesitation is your enemy.
>>

Yes, I'm saying you misrepresented it. Bulking means eating at a caloric surplus. That's it. If you don't bulk, you won't gain any muscle, and you make it sound like bulking means eating 5000 calories a day.
>>
>>39978722

Don't stay at a party you're not having fun at because you might get laid. All the DTF girls have left already. Go home early.
The truism that confidence is the the most attractive trait is true, but not necessarily in and of itself, but what it communicates: remember, that any woman you are approaching doesn't actually know you, and has to rely on a socially determined signal to see if you're worth her time. Confidence when talking to women is a signal that you have acted this way in the past and succeeded, and so there's an implicit message that socially, you are ok. That's why "acting alpha" etc. works.
All that being said, girls will reject you for any number of reasons, so don't take it personally.

Social life
Develop hobbies outside of lifting. Join a club sport, learn to cook, play an instrument, volunteer, etc. Becoming a well-rounded person.
Don't shit talk people or spread malicious gossip if you can't help it, because you never know what will come back to them.
Always try and remember people's names (repeat it 3 times when talking to them).

Life generally
Practice being kind, empathetic and understanding. Everybody else is a human with a full subjectivity and are doing the best that they can, and there's no real point in being a jerk.

Anyway i've got to go to work. Hope i helped a few bros.

You'll have days when you really won't feel like leaving the bed early /go rough the cold rain to get to the gym, etc. Save your passion for days like that, and don't go 7 days a week just because you aren't feeling sore anymore.

>what is wrong with drinking and blending on a cut?
It's consuming calories for no reason.
If you're on a cut you want to eat your calories because they keep you fuller for longer. Incidentally it also increases the GI of fruits, though that's marginal.

Like I said, no benefits and a few cons.

Two things from me
If your form is correct, but you're getting any sort of joint, bone, tendon or ligament type of pain, you know the pain that you shouldn't be feeling. Then go to a chiropractor/physiotherapist. If you live in the UK, avoid NHS, they'll just tell you to use lighter weight and do more reps to save money.

Stretch regularly, it's incredible how much of a difference it makes.

Eating enough , and taking care of your gut is the most important thing to meet your goals.Do three day water fasts every other month. Eat stuff with probiotic like kefir , and unpasteurized sauerkraut. When cutting drink green tea before every meal to help with appetite control. Also, fuck cardio over 10 minutes. No it doesnt and thats my point. You dont understand what that word means. If you arent lifting weights and you are eating at a caloric surplus are you bulking? The answer is no, you are just a fatass eating food. When you first start out newb gains will take you far. Bulking doesnt even factor into it thats why most people can loose weight and get stronger simultaneously when they first start lifting. You are out of your elague so please stop posting.

there are only two groups of people who equate fitness and lifting (this is not to say only two groups of people who lift): people who lift so they can keep feeling superior, and people who lift because they want to be able to feel superior. neither group is actually superior to other groups in anything other than weight lifting.

>>
>>39981180

OP of the advice post. I find the health aspect of veganism/vegetarianism to be not particularly convincing--there's evidence for and against.

What IS true is the fact that the suffering caused to animals by the factory farming system is not a necessary part of human survival, but rather a choice that we make because we enjoy eating meat. By eating animal products, we prop up the system that tortures living beings. Add into the fact that that man made climate change is real, and one of the biggest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions and deforestation is meat production. Our current level of meat consumption is not environmentally sustainable.

I'm not a vegan--i'm not even a particularly strict vegetarian--so I'm not saying this as some sort of moral righteous/virtue signal. I'm just taking an intellectually honest look at the situation. I know being a moralfag isn't cool, but attempting to live a life of "goodness" and make decisions that positively impact society/the environment/the world is good for your mental health if nothing else.

>Hey guys I'm a psych student who might get into the psychology industry. You need the psychology industry.

Bullshit, you're built to have depression, and you're built to overcome it. What you need to do, and it won't be easy, is exit your comfort zone and improve your self talk. It can start slow; asking people for the time/ making conversation with the girl at the checkout line. But build on those successes

>Self talk
The single most important thing in your life. You have always and will always live with yourself. I break my 'self' into two categories: the transcendent logical "just talk to her nothing will happen" self, and the animal emotional "I can't get over these feelings of anxiety" self. The logical self is the guide and teacher, and needs to understand the limitations of your psychology. Here's what to do with your logical self
>Never talk down to or demean your animal self for failing. Reality is far more difficult to overcome than logic.
>Never berate yourself. Failure is the gestational form of success. The only bad failure is the failure to act, but that too should be forgiven swiftly.
>Never tell yourself to do something, or say you "should" do something. Say "I WANT to do x BECAUSE y." This gives you purpose and meaning, and turns your logical self into a loving friend rather than a stern and draconian parent.

Don't do brain drugs, they're not worth the sides and the feeling that you need them.

If you want to visit a shrink, do so, but always remember that action and leaving your comfort zone- aka actually doing something- is far more efficient at improving your state of mind. Don't use life coaches or psychologists as a crutch. Also be mindful that despite their best intentions, they have a vested interest in keeping you dependent on them. Unconscious desire control us far more than we realize, any who deny this are either duplicitous or ignorant

>I personally occupy a middle ground and I believe some of the best most logical studies support this

Most omnivores do not exist in this middle ground though. The standard western meat based diet is pretty far and away in the unsustainable meat heavy direction in terms of carbon products and deforestation to provide crops for animal products, and the environmental impact of our food system isn't due to too many vegans (again, which I am not one), but rather, too much meat production.

Reducto-ad-absurdum-ing the argument to eat less meat to be "well if nobody ate meat then pasture land would go to waste," and making a super false comparison of "well 300 calories of broccoli takes more resources than 300 calories of bacon" (because you're not subbing 1 for 1 in the diet calories) doesn't suddenly mean that eating factory farmed meat and animal products is some sort of environmental good.

And that isn't getting into the ethics of factory farming, which is pretty horrific any way you slice it.
>>
>>39982515
Correlation=\=causation. Consider that whole milk consumption was at its highest rate with the general population the same time agent Orange and DDT was. Then consider that to do a decent study on prostate cancer you're interviewing men in their 50s about their lifetime of habits. A survey based study based on the memories of 50 year old men is not what I call difinitive science.

What. In the book Rippletits tells you to do arm shit after the rest of your routine and even lays out an effective way to do barbell curls. >Focusing on the negative of a lift can help your strength gains. ie lift slower

The second one is mainly for isolation exercises.
>>
>>39977784
I'm a student so I sit down a lot and just injured my lower back because of it (which is one of the most normal injuries when you sit down too much).

Find stuff that stretches your hip flexors, one example of a stretch I do every morning/evening is:

Go into a lunge and keep the foot and knee in the ground. Now make this stance wider so that both your front and bag leg is at an angle. Don't stretch yet! Now square your hips, meaning if fx your right leg is back, your hips will be slightly pulled that way - pull it the opposite way so it's centered. Then tuck your tailbone under and lean forward, hold for 30 seconds, switch legs, repeat. You should feel the stretch almost right away.

>>
>>39983061

What do you mean by "bouncing" in "absolute contraction"?
>>
>>39981109
Stretching cold muscles=muscle tear
Stretching warm muscles= muscle growth
>>
>>39983169
There are basically 2 stages of a lift. The stage where your target muscle is fully expanded and the stage where it is fully contracted (if you have complete range of motion). I'll use leg extension for an example because it's my favorite and you can immediately feel the effects. When you lift the weight so your legs are straight out, your quads are fully contracted. This is also the point where the most tension exists and its the hardest point to reach (like elbows locked out in bench/shoulder press or back fully straight in deadlift). If at this point you focus on basically using your legs to 'bounce' the weight up and down a small bit it helps increase your time under tension (key to growth) by staying close to the point where your quads are fully contracted.
If I dumbed it down for you too much I just did it to make things as clear as possible not because I assume you're retarded.
Also I wouldn't advise this for big lifts like squat and deadlift because of the risk of injury.
>>
Normies think going to the gym is 90% of the work but in reality the gym is the easiest part. The hardest part about being a healthy weightlifter is adapting your diet and sleep schedule to it. If you're not eating right and sleeping right you might as well not even be lifting.

And here are studies talking about how meat is terrible for the environment:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_impact_of_meat_production

Here's the study talked about in the summary: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/climatechange/doc/FAO%20report%20executive%20summary.pdf

I read both sides, and i feel like you really have to cherry pick conditions wherein meat production is actually beneficial (when you're replacing all your calories with like, lettuce, or just focusing on arable land used for and the weight of evidence truly lies on the side of meat being a detriment to our environment and the responsible choice to, if not completely eliminate meat consumption, to greatly reduce it.

You are drawing conclusions that are different than the evidence you provided when you suggest a non meat diet.

No, it hasn't. Stretching has no influence on recovery, growth or injury prevention. The only thing static stretching aids in, is flexibility. That's it.

>Conclusions: The data on stretching and muscle soreness indicate that, on average, individuals will observe a reduction in soreness of less than 2 mm on a 100-mm scale during the 72 hours after exercise.
>With respect to risk of injury, the combined risk reduction of 5% indicates that the stretching protocols used in these studies do not meaningfully reduce lower extremity injury risk of army recruits undergoing military training.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1250267/

>Static stretching is effective at increasing ROM.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3273886/

>There is moderate to strong evidence that routine application of static stretching does not reduce overall injury rates.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18785063

>Therefore, stretching (and thus making the tendon more compliant) may not be advantageous. This conjecture is supported by the literature, where strong evidence exists that stretching has no beneficial effect on injury prevention in these sports.

Here's another conclusion from one of your sources
>Mooney and collaborators are proposing that their meat model be used in a continuing global assessment of the livestock industry. A more extensive application will inform policies that take into account the environmental benefits and consequences of global trade of grain, in addition to the economic benefits that may exist.
"A recoupling of crop and livestock systems is needed-if not physically, then through pricing and other policy mechanisms that reflect social costs of resource use and ecological abuse," wrote Naylor, director of the Program on Food Security and the Environment and William Wrigley Senior Fellow at the Woods Institute, in the journal Science.
"That's fundamental and that's true for all food," Mooney said. "We should pay the real cost, and that would make a huge difference for the environment."
One solution is for countries to adopt policies that provide incentives for better management practices that focus on land conservation and more efficient water and fertilizer use, Mooney said.
So much of the problem comes down to the individual consumer, he stressed, adding that one solution could be to get people in developed countries to eat less meat and to consider how and where the meat that they do eat is produced. At the same time, people in certain regions of the world, such as southern Africa, are suffering from a deficiency of animal protein, and the means to enrich their diets is needed. "I am always hopeful that as people learn more, they do change their behavior," Mooney said. "If they are informed that they do have choices to help build a more sustainable and equitable world, they can make better choices."
Where is the part about veganism?

>Where is the part about veganism?

>adding that one solution could be to get people in developed countries to eat less meat and to consider how and where the meat that they do eat is produced.

That's you. You are the consumer in the developed country that he's suggesting eat less meat. What was my original assertion? Eat less meat. There is no contradiction here. You are not a starving sub saharan africa. If you eat sustainably raised meat good for you, but I severely doubt you're actually doing that.

>Consider trying vegeterianism or veganism, or just generally eating less meat. Factory farming is undoubtedly a horrific practice and terrible for the environment. Don't be a cunt about it and people will accept your choices. You can get plenty of protein from tofu and seitan (especially if you make your own).

There is no contradiction in what i'm asserting and the sources i've provided.

What kind of dating advice you guys would give to women?

Asking this as a woman who struggles to find guys to date. I do get attention, meaning if I approach men, they'll compliment me, ask for my number, FB etc. Yet I never hear from them again.

That is simply not true. The answer is two-fold:
>Boys have ADHD more than girls as a matter of statistics
>Parents do this thing where they "doctor-hop" until they one that diagnoses their kid with what THEY want their kid to have
The latter also occurs for other conditions, in which people get 2nd, 3rd, 5th opinions until someone tells them what they want to hear.

I agree with your sentiment. ADHD is being pushed by parents almost as hard as "thyroid problems" is being pushed by fatties.
