I need help /fit/. I've been trying to improve my range of motion on bench press. However, when I try to get the bar down to my chest I find my shoulders locking, preventing me from lifting the bar up again.
I don't really know what's wrong, any ideas?
Try a wider grip, and bring the bar further down on your chest. Keep elbows in. Retract scalpula, whatever that means.

Spend $80 a go see a strength coach. They'll be able to fix you much better than we ever could. You'll get instant feedback.
is your scapula retracted?

keeping your elbows in recruits the triceps, and that would be an awkward positioning especially with a wide grip
I don't even understand what you mean, your shoulders lock out backwards before you can get your hands to chest level?
Wouldn't that make you unable to do things like wipe your own ass? Further clarification needed, OP.
Dig your traps into the bench. Actually put your fucking feet on the bottom of the bench and dig in as hard as you can into that thing. Then put your feet on the floor and bench as normal.
Once I worked out how to do that shit, it was a eureka moment for my bench.

Just keep practicing and don't weight up until you get it down.
