Doing much in the way of accessories? Building up those rear delts much?

I have reduced it significantly now. I'm going to max bench twice a week, deadlifts once a week and overhead press twice a week. That's all I'm really going to max, I'll stick with high volume for everything else.

Well it's still progressive overload just applied to three training styles. Volume, recovery and intensity.

It's pretty easy to grasp and believe me the gains are steady. You don't need a massive complex programme for that if you are coming out of SS. Its easily adapted as well so you can add accessories and make the most of it. Just push yourself.

It's enough volume on monday for early-intermediate lifters to progress. Though I do think it needs more bench volume than just 5x5 in order to be more consistent to most lifters.
If you can't progress with 5x5 then it's obviously not the program for you, unless you wanna try upping it with 3-5 backoff sets on each lift and training for 4 hours on monday or something.

This is assuming the regular version. Splits work a bit differently, but follow the same logic. Do volume, get some rest, test new max, repeat.

I can't manage to touch the bar on the chest on the bench press. It feels incredibly akward when I try to "force" the bar on the chest. I'm arching as best as I can and keeping the elbows tucked in, but I just feel that it's physically impossible for me to touch the chest. I've tried different hands width but nothing seems to work...

Your back can be tight and sore just from spending too much time in the arched position and maintaining the shoulders in place. And that soreness if mostly felt on the lower traps or rhomboids, rather than the lats itself. Though your lats can also get sore.

But when it comes to the actual lifting of the bar, the lats are pretty negligible.

Maybe even useless, but for now we can't assert their level of uselessness due to technological limitations. We just know that it's a meme.

To be more complete about this, the lats can in fact help push the bar like 3cm or so above your chest. But in practise it's likely that they're not used by your nervous system at all because of awareness that they will then pull the bar against the movement.

Tested 2 months ago, I hit 345/245 (paused) 265 (TNG)/405.

I took a small hiatus and just started again so I doubt I can hit those numbers rn. I'd estimate, as I am currently, 335/250/385. My bench feels stronger than it used to for some reason but squat and deadlift are definitely weaker.
