Hey /fit/
Anyone with a biochem background or just a well informed individual explain to me how detrimental NSAID's are to gains?
I have scoliosis and the use of ibruprofen up to 800mg/dose significantly helps with pain/function, I was wondering if the increase in my ability to lift harder due to increased functionality could outweigh the costs on protein repair/synthesis? Do I need to suffer to reach my potential?
Any insights and experiences greatly appreciated.
TL/DR: Pain relief & increased workout ability from NSAIDs worth it regarding muscle gain?
They can reduce protein synthesis up to 50%, thus decreasing muscle hypertrophy. But if you weren't too much of a lazy cocksucker to use Google, you'd know that already.

50%? jesus!.. I knew they inhibited protein synthesis but just didn't realise it was that drastic. Guess I have no choice but to abandon them and suffer, thanks anyway
actually that article says that the 50% was on rodent models and that the evidence for humans is conflicting and that in one study prolonged use actually increased muscle gains... confusing.

That's most research based science when it comes to humans. Humans can lie, rats can't.

taking ibuprofen or tylenol when you need to is fine
if you're that autistic to not take a pain pill or two when you have a headache because of some bullshit you heard then welcome to /fit/

I want to make an army of super-honest ultramuscular rats

Human's can lie? You mean self-report measures? I'm assuming they measured muscle mass with other means after using the NSAIDS

Yes but I'm OP and I take ibrupofen everyday, its prescribed to me. That's why i'm enquiring as my gains are important to me but being able to lift in the first place cause I don't have pain is equally important. NSAIDS always work whereas opiates i would build a tolerance, and paracetamol doesn't cut it.

That article answers nothing imo.
