It's okay to try and not succeed at something, even if you've been trying for longer than others. You're not in a race, you're not here to be the best at fitness, the best at managing your health. You're here to get better, and every day you do better is a day worth celebrating. But at the same time, it's not a scorecard. Failure is not a mark of shame, or a scar you must bare forever. It's just that, a fail, and it's okay to fail, as long as you keep trying to win. Being afraid of failure has only one true reprieve and that is to never try, and that's no way to live life.

Learn to appreciate yourself and not let self-improvement become a purgatory where you burn away you past sins. Make self-improvement something you want to like yourself even more than you do, not the reason you like yourself. Some positive quality can fade or fail, don't put your hopes on them. It's okay to like yourself as you are right now, as long as you never stop wanting to improve. Don't consider it fixing shameful flaws, consider it a refinement of the worthwhile person you already are.
