If you guys are interested, check out /his/ once in a while, a couple of days ago, this one dude shared his stash of pdfs, tons of great books on history and all sorts of topics, there was also like hundreds of books on learning languages, I think I have the link saved somewhere, I'll try and find it for you guys.

Anyway, The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli is a good read, I definitely recommend it

I started reading a year ago, go to a library and pickup a short book that looks interesting, owning a physical book is harder for you to get distracted, while downloading a pdf you might read a a few pages, open 4chan and forget about it the next day. You can read while you are on the bus or something, drop the book if you dont like it.

I haven't read nietzche but every quote of his that people spam sounds like he's a nihilistic faggot who doesn't into purpose
>>
>>39828319
Ikr. The truth is further from that than you could imagine. Nietzsche discusses meaning on a self evident level, and encourages a life devoid of meaningless suffering. Purpose is an individual examination and not a systemic prescription. He also discusses self mastery through an incredibly frank outlook on free will and his so called "will to power". "Thus spoke zarathustra" is probably the most existentially energizing work ive read, other than sartre and is HIGHLY recommended if you find yourself jaded with lifes apparent pountlessness.

Keep the mental gains rollin bois

Anon below is right: Nietzsche hated nihilism, but also considered religion (and to some degree, politics) another form of nihilism, since it's based on fantasy and not something that actually exists ("Nihilist and Christian. They rhyme [in German], and they do indeed do more than just rhyme.").

Meaning is something one finds oneself, through the ubermench.

This man had an astonishing vision of what our future needs to look like. His encyclopedic knowledge of science and history ties his grandiose vision down into reality rather well rather than the fantasy land Jacque Fresco speaks about. His text can be quite verbose if not superfluous half of the time. As they say, reach for the stars and if you miss at least you'll be off this plague-ridden rock.

Not at all, it's a series of interconnected short stories about people living in babylon that impart practical advice on finances and how to think about them. Just finished this, a light read compared to the general theme of what's being posted ITT but a fantastic book nonetheless. It reads like any historical fiction novel but everything in it is a real event and all the characters are real people.

Not gonna lie I got teary eyed at the end, I'd highly recommend it to anyone interested in WWII or tales of honour and chivalry in war

I like this book
>Started as pamphlets in the 20s to teach people about finances
>got so popular, they put it together as a book
It's lessons about money, earning, saving, having a cushion for emergencies, what happens when you come into money (want to spend it on yourself, on others, or something weird happens like you break a foot and get medical bills)

Maybe that's because most philosophers are hilariously shit writers who couldn't explain a concept clearly and unambiguously if their life depended on it.

Not exactly mental gain but I'm a total beginner and I just read the sticky + this (it was recommended there) in a few hours. Although it's only 100 pages I'm happy about it because it's legit the first time I get my information of fitness through literature, and I'm usually the type of guy who never reads books or manuals or textbooks before I venture into something, I just get the basics from Youtube or whatever.

Right now I'm sizing up a nutrition textbook I have in my computer. It's short, 300 pages or so, and I think it will save me of a lot of headache later.

Nietzsche is the most misunderstood philosopher out there, but mostly because he's hard to read. Not all that hard to understand, but the way in which he wrote his works is hard to get used to, so most people just find some shit and roll with it since it fits their worldview. However, his philosophy is literally the opposite of what memers on the internet make it to be, especially his later works like Zarathustra, EH and The Gay Science

>Courageous, untroubled, mocking, violent—thus does Wisdom want us: she is a woman and always loves only a warrior. You say to me: ‘Life is hard to bear.’ But wherefore would you have in the morning your pride and in the evening your resignation? Life is hard to bear: but do not pretend to be so sensitive! We are all of us pretty sturdy asses and she-asses. What do we have in common with the rosebud, which trembles because a drop of dew lies on its body? It is true: we love life, not because we are used to living, but because we are used to loving. There is always a bit of madness in loving. But there is also always a bit of reason in madness.

>I have learned how to walk: since then I let myself run. I have learned how to fly: since then I will not be pushed before moving from my place. Now I am light, now I am flying, now I see myself beneath myself, now a God dances through me. May your love of life be love of your highest hope: and may your highest hope be the highest thought of life! ‘In your love let there be bravery! With your love you shall go after the one that fills you with fear!

>“For believe me! — the secret for harvesting from existence the greatest fruitfulness and the greatest enjoyment is: to live dangerously! Live at war with your peers and yourselves! Be robbers and conquerors as long as you cannot be rulers and possessors, you seekers of knowledge! At long last the search for knowledge will reach out for its due: — it will want to rule and possess, and you with it!”

Also, I if you need to ever shut some nihilist memer up, or someone who claims to have read Nietzsche, he literally tells people who think life is 2hard4them and depressed miserable cunts to kill themselves. He tells idealists, nihilists, ascetics and others who dismiss this life and worship the next or seek to live "virtuously" according to a certain moral code this

>They have not even become human yet, these terrible ones: let them preach rejection of life and themselves pass away! These are the consumptives of the soul: hardly are they born before they begin to die and to long for teachings of weariness and renunciation. They want very much to be dead, and we should applaud their wish! Let us guard against waking these corpses and damaging these living coffins! They come across an invalid or an old man or a corpse;* and straightway they say, ‘Life is refuted!’ But only they are refuted and their eye, which sees only one face of existence. Shrouded in thick depression and eager for the small accidents that bring death: thus do they wait and grind their teeth together. Or else again: they grasp after sweetmeats and mock their childishness in this; they cling to their straw of a life and mock their still clinging to a straw. Their wisdom says: ‘A fool is he who stays alive, but such fools are we! And this is just what is most foolish about life!’— ‘Life is only suffering’—thus say others and do not lie: so see to it that you cease living! So see to it that the life that is only suffering ceases!
And let the teaching of your virtue resound thus: ‘Thou shalt kill thyself! Thou shalt steal thyself away!
