I'm going so shit in my summer holiday uni classes in Australia because I'm cutting on 1,800 calories and lifting on PPLxPPL.
I'm getting lean but fucking hell I just don't feel like studying in a calorie deficit.

Is isn't even optimal to gain muscle when you're fat. More body-fat = less testosterone, similar to how being too lean results in diminishing testosterone levels.
Basically
1. Re-comping flat out just doesn't work unless you're NEW to lifting, or on your first steroid cycle
2. If you're above 15% body-fat there's no reason you should ever bulk, cutting and bulking should be done from 10% to 15% to 10%. This window should become less the longer you've been lifting, eg: 6-8% to 12% and back.
