Me too, OP. I've managed to do it before, but then I always fall back. It's a horrible addiction.

When I was 12 my parents would be pissed at me staying on the computer all the time and I was pissed at them for being pissed at it. Now they themselves are constantly on their computers and phones, while I realize the internet was a mistake. In my job, I'm at the computer. When there is nothing to do, I'm reading articles and looking at timelines and creating even more things to read and talk about when I get home. The world is not helping.

it takes work to go outside and do things but in the end it improves you as a person so much.

you have just as much a media addiction as an internet addiction, stop wiring your brain around this box and whatever it is spewing at you, which includes my message and includes whatever else you spend reading while online.

go outside and experience life, just go do something simple like take a walk and pay attention to your thoughts as you take your steps,get away from the existential angst this box is feeding you.

I think we're the sum of our habits, and I know there are some really shitty aspects of my life, my attitude and my worldview that I'm never really going to erase as long as keep the formative habits alive, like browsing online boards that teach me nothing but hate and self-loathing, stalking people too much on social media like a fucking creep, or just wasting time with internet bullshit in general.

Even now that I do gym, work and college at the same time and I barely have any proper "free time" anymore, I always manage to crawl back to this and other shitholes to shitpost a few times a day. One time I was having lunch with people from college, which is great because I'm trying to fit in and all that shit, and still at one point I picked up my phone and started browsing /lit/ and abstaining from the conversation without even thinking about what I was doing. And like trying to cut porn, you only realise you're addicted once you seriously try to quit.

it's a grass-is-greener situation

in theory, you could be spending your time online reading about quantum field theory (or whatever floats your boat) and discussing it with like-minded individuals

but if you're not doing that now, when it is literally a push of a button away, what makes you think you'll magically decide to engage in more productive activities once you step away from the computer?
