I've gotten interested in martial arts since eons ago, and was always fascinated by how many are there. I think a choice for a martial art is one that also defines a bit of the person and characterizes it. I'd personally have been interested since always in Muay Thai, Karate (abandoned then again after reading Teppu, along MMA training), Krav Maga to be deadly, Aikido because it's fascinating, and now Filipino hand-to-hand combat and knife-wielding techniques, because of The Man from Nowhere. I would like to find more resources on these martial arts, and really want to find more info/graphs also on which martial arts one could do in which occasion, or something like the image I'm posting in the OP. Also just want to discover what others think overall and do with them.
Do you practice Martial Arts? Which? Since how long? Did you do alone training for a while before going to a trainer? Are you satisfied? Ever gotten to use it? Could you share advices, resources, information, training etc., so I can create folder for personal knowledge? Thanks to everyone.
What's fits opinion on Kali and silat. I never see them mentioned.
So it looks like bjj and boxing are the only non meme martial arts.

Kali is why I'm doing this thread overall, it seems like it's being employed on a wide range of movies as well.
Is learning a martial art worth it? I can't help but think bjj wouldn't be very helpful against a thrown barstool.

Most of them help you learning how to dodge things or send them back, shield yourself, minimize damage, so yeah.
Surprised not many people are responding since I was told that /fit/ would be ideal to post this kind of thread.

/K/ might be better. Different kind of autist here.

the one that just wants to build up muscles?
But thank you for the advice, will try.

We're not so much interested in being deadly or competent here.
Might be a stupid question but are there any books to help with starting a particular martial arts?
Thoughts on this gym?

What about this?

If I ultimately had to decide between boxing and MT what would it be?
BJJ, less than 6 months, alone training is a stupid idea, find a gym/dojo/whatever,
I did BJJ for a semester at Uni, was fun and I could see practical application if coupled with striking.
