What really helped me was going super early in the morning, basically as soon as they opened (assuming your gyms not 24 hours).

I basically only did cardio for like 2 weeks, I only started lifting after a lot of observing of others and watching videos. You don't need to dive right into things, take your time, take it slow. Slow and right is better than fast and oh god I fucked up and then you never go again.

Reading about it and watching the videos is all well and good, but its great having someone show you how to actually do shit in reality and once you have an idea of what to do, it really helps the nerves. They've seen a thousand like you, they won't judge. They'll probably even relate if they were former fatties or respect you for making the change that others don't.

I'm still hitting the gym 3x a week and getting in the rack. I look pathetic and feel it but I just have to suck it up and get on with it. You soon get used to it and realise no one gives a fuck. Even I've been able to walk up to ripped niggas and ask them how many sets they have left etc. Most people in the gym are polite even if they look intimidating.

Just lift and take personal pride in the fact you are working out despite your insecurities

It takes time for your nervous system to get used to doing the motions in the most efficient manner. When I first started all of my lifts at least doubled within the first month because I got used to doing them. The squat uses a shitload of different muscles so it could take some time for you to actually lift what you're capable of.

Get a macro counting app on your phone to keep track of how much you're taking in. It's gonna be a lot, and you're probably going to want to kill yourself, but it's what it takes. Your body uses fats, carbs, and proteins all for different things and will substitute one if it lacks another, so you need to be taking in a balanced amount of all three for best results.

For a program, 5/3/1 is really good for very gradual but constant progression. Google it.

Real talk anon, I've been to like 4-5 different gyms over the years. Just go to Anytime or... Planet Fitness (please don't lynch me /fit/). I'm currently going to PF because I'm trying to save money for a new car and I'm cutting. Make no mistake, PF is like the worst place in the world to try and make gains. But all my lifting is maintenance and I'm focused on cardio to get down to 13% bodyfat before summer.

So if you're like I was, a butterball who's ashamed of their body. Just go there, it's cheap and most of the people there are absolutely pathetic anyway.

However, if you want to go to a real gym know this. You will not be looked down upon, the only fatasses we look down upon are those who aren't trying to fix it. I've been there anon, I've felt that shit, I know what it's like. If you're skinnyfat same shit still applies. If you don't start now you will always be embarrassed of that body.

Yes you do, you think you eat a lot, but you are not, when I was 150lb 5'10, I ate so fucking much and did 5x5, and in 3 months of doing so I am now 180 and my lifts have gone up dramatically. When you wake up, eat, you feel full? Eat a little more to the point where you feel slightly like puking, and after you don't feel like puking, drink a big glass of whole milk, and just repeat that 3 or 4 times a day and you will gain weight, trust me, your metabolism doesnt mean shit when you eat that much, you will be amazed of how eating can make you so much stronger, it is truly amazing to realize our body is just a machine that requires fuel to become stronger
